FINALLY! This room has taken quite a bit of time to reveal because it took quite a bit of time to work on. Here’s a list of the projects we completed to get the room to where it is today:
Scrape the popcorn ceiling off
Paint the walls/accent walls
Add more electrical to power both nightstand lamps
Remove old carpet + install new laminate, hand scraped cherry floors
New baseboards
Crown moulding
New doors
New closet
New bathroom (totally gutted it)
And we are finally done! WOO! I’m about to take you through over 30 photos showcasing this massive transformation. We tried to keep it cheap/budget conscious, as always.

I HATED this ceiling fan. It took me right back to 1989.
I also hated the vertical blinds which reminded me of every single apartment I’ve lived in.
And here’s a photo of us trying out some paint samples. It was also torture to have to watch TV on a 19” TV. First world problems, y’all.
But now it looks beautiful! The overall look that Daniel and I wanted for our master bedroom was calm, serene, upscale, hotel chic. For the colors, we wanted it to feel very monochromatic (much like this post I wrote a few years ago) with different shades of gray and white, plus lots of patterns and textures. Very Candice Olson…on a budget. I’m including product source links in case you want to buy/find any of the items we used in our revamp.

I am obsessed with this vintage blue candy dish I found at a local thrift shop. It was $5 well spent—it’s gorgeous!
I really, really, REALLY wanted a bold and beautiful chandelier in this room, but I live in South Texas, so ceiling fan it is! However, this ceiling fan is gorgeous! The chrome finish and gray blades really class up the space. As a bonus, the lights also flip up (as you see below) or you can point them down. You can find it at The Home Depot. You can also really see our lovely, smooth ceiling in the photo below. LOVE IT!
It’s really great to have a 32” TV in the bedroom now. The TV stand is a set from Home Decorators (Mia collection), and I love how it’s slightly feminine, has plenty of storage, and is mirrored.

I also have a spot for all my jewelry, makeup brushes, etc. It’s a nice catch all kind of thing because I always leave my stuff laying around everywhere.

Between the closet and bathroom doors we have a little space that now features some décor from Home Goods as well as a bench we bought at Marshall’s. When it’s not staged for a photo shoot, you can bet the bench is covered with throw pillows and random clothing.
The rug is truly one of my favorite aspects of the room. Anyone who knows me KNOWS I love me some damask print.
Pee Wee loves it, too. He avoids laying on bare floors—true story. He always seeks out the nearest rug, bathmat, blanket, etc. He hates to be on cold floors.
My favorite part of this room though, and also the most difficult accessory to decide on, are the curtains. I’ve bought and returned over 5 sets of curtains because they were either too sheer, too dark, too cheap, too expensive, or a combo of those things. I wanted curtains that were high end, upscale, patterned, and did a good job of blocking out light. I also desperately wanted curtains with nickel grommets—all the ones I found in stores were brass, pewter, or bronze.
I finally got everything I wanted with Loom Decor. They custom make almost any décor piece you could possibly need for your home such as curtains, bedskirts, pillows, bedding, poufs, and so much more. I must have looked at their fabric choices a million times before deciding on The Taj in Pearl Gray. The pattern/color way is everything I was dreaming of and couldn’t find at my usual sources. Plus, at Loom’s website you can instantly see what your item, in my case curtains, will look like BEFORE buying. It really helps to visualize it completely instead of just relying on a tiny swatch.
Loom Decor also offers many different options such as pleats, grommet colors, lengths, so these truly are custom curtains. I will admit they are an investment, but the quality is worth the price. My curtains are FLAWLESS. Invest in timeless patterns/colors you will always love, and you’ll save over the long term. I have so many “cheap” curtains that now sit in a box because the quality isn’t good or they were too trendy. My new curtains won’t suffer the same demise.
The day I got them in the mail was a HAPPY day. The curtains came well packaged, and they didn’t even need ironing (which I hate doing). I also immediately noticed one thing about these curtains—they were heavy. The material is top quality, and the hems were all perfectly straight. The lining on the curtains is high quality, and overall these are the nicest curtains I have ever had in my home. These are the best curtains ever. It will be really hard to ever go back to buying curtains at Target. Immediately I hung them up, and I was in love. Finally the master bedroom felt complete.
The pattern is truly unique and gorgeous. It’s not the trellis pattern seen almost everywhere (which I do like, but it’s a little overdone). It’s bold without being over the top.
The nickel grommets match perfectly with my Umbra curtain rod from Bed, Bath & Beyond.
The curtains drape beautifully because of the fabric, lining, and weighted corners.
At nighttime, they do a fine job of blocking out any excess light, and during the day I draw them back to let the sun shine in. I ordered some very inexpensive and very awesome sheers from Amazon to filter the light in and still have a bit of privacy when I draw the curtains back. I LOVE THESE CURTAINS! My plan from now on is just to save up for what I truly want and order from Loom Decor. I want to do some work on the living room next, and I’ll be needing a pair of curtains and a floor pouf. Loom Decor is my first choice from now on for all my fabric/upholstery needs.
The one corner of our master bedroom which isn’t all glamorous is the corner nearest the bathroom. I’d love to put a reading chair or a desk in this space, but for now Pee Wee enjoys making it his own little haven. Once I get some furniture to fill this space, I’ll post an updated photo.
Next week I’ll be posting our closet and bathroom reveal/makeover, so there’s plenty more to be seen. As usual, we try to keep everything as cheap as we possibly can, but we did splurge on the headboard, nightstands, and flooring. Everything else from the lamps, to the pillows, to the random accessories was mostly snagged on clearance and/or with coupons. Overall, we consider this an investment, and that’s why we chose timeless pieces that we’d love for many, many years.
