There’s no denying it:  When it’s date-night, I be like…

Haha, I do love me a date night.  And it’s one of the few times I get a little dressed up around here.  Well, dressed up if eyeliner and lace-up sandals or little boots is dress-up.  Lucky for me, beachy-casual is the name of the game here in Hawaii.   People come to church barefoot with bed-head, and you see girls in bikinis walking around the grocery store.

So yes, lace-up sandals or little boots absolutely count as dress-up.

The truth is–I love fashion, and I often say that my only artistic talent is putting together cute clothes, ha.  I always like my clothes to fit my mood, so even on a day that I am just home with kids, I will sometimes change a couple times to find what feels right that day (am I the only one?)

I thought I would try a few “What I wear” posts, just for fun.  Being 43 and a homeschooling mom of four shouldn’t get in the way of my love for style, right?  I know I’m not the only one, so hopefully you’ll join the conversation!

I try to balance the young style I love, with age-appropriate consideration, and the “what should a mom wear?” question.  (I usually error on the side of the young style I love.)

Here’s my first outfit for:
What I Wear, Casual Date-Night Style.

For the past few months, most date nights I’ve been wearing pants and little boots.  I know you won’t believe it, but the cooler temperatures have hung around into the spring, and our evenings have been chilly.  I added a vest to this outfit, and was undecided which way I liked it more. (Your vote?)  Dave was super helpful with the “It looks good either way,” contribution.  Thanks, guy.

Anyways, these are one of several pairs of print pants I have purchased this year, because guess what: I love print pants!  I have since I was a kid, and I will until I die.  I can’t help it.  Bury me in some bold, print pants, ok?  Love them.  I love prints in jeans, leggings, flowy style, yoga style, and just about anything else.  I’m thrilled that they seem to be in-style right now! (not that I would quit wearing them if they weren’t. :))

I discovered this particular pair of pants when some Southern California friends visited, who were way more up on trends and styles than I am.  Since I usually do my shopping at local surf shops to avoid driving to the big city, I often don’t even know what (non-surf) brands the rest of the world is wearing.  I had to ask the girls all of the brands of their cute jeans and pants, because suddenly, I wanted–no needed, every single pair.  (yet another reason my husband is glad we don’t live in Southern California.)

One of the girls was wearing these “Mother” brand cords, and I fell in love.  They are stretchy, and quite thin, so I knew they’d be good in Hawaii.  Next thing you know I was searching the internet for them.
Side note:  Do you shop online much?  I’m still getting used to it.   I’ve always preferred to be able to touch and feel and try on (a thousand pairs of) pants before I purchase.  But recently I’ve started online shopping more.  And that is scary because it has worked out really, really well.

I ended up scoring these off ebay, and I’m thinking I could have gone a size smaller because they tend to stretch a bit, and the legs are a little wrinkly, but I still love them.  They are great with sandals as well.   You can order them from Revolve, Here. (free shipping always.)

I love that putting them on after a long day isn’t at all uncomfortable.  They feel really good. And color makes me happy. Back view:  (I really don’t have a flat butt as this picture makes it seem.)

Side view:  (Can your eyes say “Son, quit climbing that wall while I’m taking photos!” as good as mine can?)

Also wearing:  My Tom’s boots, which will need replacing by next fall.  (I’ve worn them to death.) Add to that a sparkly Target tank-top from Christmas’ past, and a necklace from American Eagle (cost: maybe $16, and I get more compliments on it than most of my “real” jewelry. isn’t that always the way?) and call it a date-night. Oh, and the vest addition?  Kmart! (seriously!)  I bought it about five years ago, and I seriously love it.  Even though I really cannot stand Kmart, and probably haven’t been there since I bought the vest, haha.

So…What do you wear for date nights?  (or nights out with friends, for you single folks. ;))  Do you like to get dressed up?   Do you love or hate print pants?  (it’s ok, I can take it.)   Do you shop online?  If so, tell me your favorite site!!

Have an awesome day…
