One of the biggest concerns we have for our family is dealing with drinking water in the event of an emergency. We’re good on water filters for the house and the fridge that do some, but what happens when water isn’t available through the tap in your kitchen? What if you just want to have a healthier lifestyle and remove as much ‘gunk’ from your city water or well water as you possibly can? That’s when you should look into a water purification system.
When I was walking through a survival expo awhile back, I was astounded at the price of the water purification systems available. It just seemed beyond our reach as a family when we had so much to tackle. We knew we’d have to stick with storing store purchased water (did you know much of what makes up bottled water actually just comes from another city’s tap water?) Then I stopped at a vendor when I heard him discussing the options of water purifications systems he had. He was selling a water purification system that was using the same filtering system that some of the big named companies were using, but it was significantly less expensive.
I had to stop and talk with him about it because we were in the market for a water purification system, and I really wanted to know that what we were considering for our family was going to be safe.. We had originally decided to bo with that big name company, but after talking with Karsten from Armor Pure that day, and getting a system a few weeks later to try out, I’m so very glad we changed our minds.
Why a Water Purification System?
You probably have city water if you’re reading this. Most of us do. Most of us have good city water that comes from a great system that cleans it with things like chlorine, adds flouride, uses other chemicals to get rid of smells and bugs. But is your water REALLY clean? As clean as you’d like it (this is really great info on what’s really in your water and what you need to do about it)? And do you want to be drinking that stuff if you have a choice? Now think about being in a world where you no longer can rely on your city municipality to provide you with clean drinking water. You have to go and collect it yourself. Wouldn’t you want to purify that water before drinking it to endsure that you’ve got the freshest and cleanest water you can possibly have? And even if you’ve stored water and used bleach for purification, you really want to filter that out if you possibly can before you drink it.
Why not just get a pitcher filter?
Pitcher filters that you can buy from most box stores are good, but don’t do enough. You can go with many of the faucet systems that do take out more, but then you’re back to relying on a city’s water supply to take care of you. It may come to a point when you don’t have that option any longer due to weather disasters or local disasters, and you’re using gathered water instead. Your sink filter isn’t going to help you there.
What’s so special about the AmorPure?
From the manufacturer:
The AquaBladeTM pinification filter provides Fluoride Removal unlike the filters of our top competitors.
Meets ANSI 61 standards incuding high quality NSF component based on activated carbon from coconut shell and other superior adsorbent material including B2.
Cleanable ceramic shell allows for much longer useable life, making them an excellent option for emergency preparedness or natural disasters where it may otherwise be difficult to find replacement filters.
Each filter candle will process 2.5 gallons of water every two hours. A set four water filter candles will process 2.5 gallons in 1/2 hour by spliting the work load.
Each filter candle provides 9″ of water filtration capacity and incorporates only the highest quality, food grade fittings to allow water to pass from the upper to the lower reservoir.
Our filters have been tested for regulatory compliance by an independent test laboratory.
Removes fluoride, in addition to lead, mercury, arsenic, zinc, aluminum, nickel, chlorine, chloramines, Volatile organic compounds (VOC), MTBE, glyphosate, a range of pharmaceutical componnds, nitrates, herbicides, pathogenic bacteria up to 99.9999%, cholera, typhoid, salmonella, E. Coli, fecal Coli form bacteria. 100% of Sediment down to 0.5 microns and a variely of other compounds and microorganisms.
READ HERE about their filter technology and the lab results. What about the viruses and things like the algae scare?
No water filter system can get rid of viruses, and some contaminants haven’t been tested by labratories (such as the algae), so no claim can be made about cleaning that from water. I’m not going to make this a comparison piece on one purification system vs. another. I’m wanting to educate on everyone that there are options out there for you. And they don’t all have to be quite so expensive.
Putting together the Armor Pure Water Purification System – took about ten minutes. This system can hold 4 candle filters, but we went with two to start off. Four candle filters can work through the water more efficiently than two, so you’d have ready water to drink much more quickly. But the safety of the water isn’t effected at all.
What I love about the Armor Pure Water Purification System
Stainless Steel – it just makes me feel better about this piece of equipment in the kitchen. No plastics (even though the 3.5 Gallon Plastic Water Purification System is BPA free, we just prefer to go non-plastic when we can).
Replacement filters are affordable and don’t need to be done every three months. And because the gravity-fed system allows you to prime the filters, you can just set it up, fill it up and let it do all of the work for you, instead of having to manually prime the filter the way some others work.
Gives me a sense of security in that I’m providing my family with the best water option I can, both now and in an emergency situation
Portable. The Amor Pure system can easily be transported from one location to another for convenience.
Easily storable. For whatever reason you may need to store it, the parts break down easily and nest inside each other easily for compact storage.
Filtered, purified water at the press of a lever. Because we refill the container each night, we have purified water at the press of a button. No waiting for it to come through the refrigerator (and putting in a big pot under that little spout doesn’t happen easily), nor do we have to constantly refill a pitcher.
What I didn’t like about the Amor Pure Water Purification System
Fingerprints. But that’s just me. If you don’t like fingerprints, go with the 3.5 gallon white model and you won’t have to worry about them at all!
I didn’t do the infamous peppermint extract test on this water the way I’ve done for all of the other personal filters I’ve tried. Wanna know why? Didn’t have to. That’s why. When you first set up the system, the ceramic filters need to be primed. That means that you need to let the water go through the system (gravity fed) and work through the filter. It’s going to remove some of the dust from the inner core of carbon, plus integrate with the ceramic. In the beginning, your water may have an alkaline taste from that process. After 2 rounds of running water through the filter system (we didn’t waste that water, it was used to water plants). Once we were on the 3rd round, it was obvious that the filters were fully primed and ready to go. We’ve had the system for about three months now and are really happy with it. It’s easy to use, sets our mind at ease about water issues in the event of an emergency (and even if something happened and we had to leave our house, we could take it with us easily).
