My kiddos tend to go everywhere with me and for the longest time people would randomly stop and tell me how much they looked like me.  At first, I’d just smile and say thanks.  Then after a while I started calling them my little carbon copies.  But as they got older and developed their own fun personalities, they decided to dub themselves my Minions.  It turned into a fun game where we’d ask “What would the Minions like to do today?” or “Would the Minions like a snack?” and after a while, the name just stuck.  What started as a loving endearment quickly turned into a nickname that we’re still using.

And so, I guess it really didn’t come as a surprise last week when I my littlest Minion answered our tried and true “What would the Minions like to do today?” questions with the simple reply of “Make some Minion friends!”.  At first, I just shrugged it off.  But you all know me….this crafty mama always aims to please!  So I put on my creative thinking cap, raided the craft cabinet and got to work creating some fun Minions!

Now, I had an idea of what I wanted to do from the moment my little one voiced the idea.  But I was having trouble putting it all together in my mind.  While I was thinking, we made our weekly trip to Food Lion to pick up snacks and drinks for the boys.  And as we were walking down the juice aisle, both boys simultaneously yelled “Minions!”.  Without turning around I did the standard “OK, Ok, we’ll work on that when we got home!” response but after a few attempts to get my attention, I finally turned to pick up our trusted Mott’s apple juice and instantly saw what they were so excited about.

Right there in the juice and packaged fruit aisles were items that were already on my list but now were even more appealing for our afternoon fun because they had special Mott’s Limited Time Only Minions packaging!  From the Mott’s juice that we all drink daily to the Mott’s apple sauce that I ensure I always have on hand for after school snacks, it was Minion mania!  And as I saw their excitement about the special packaging, my craft idea clicked into place in my head and I knew what must be done!

After picking up a variety of Mott’s products with special Minions packaging, I headed home.  Both the boys were excited because their favorite drinks and snacks were in on the Minion fun but I was even more excited because we were going to do something really outside of the box so to speak with our trusty Mott’s juice boxes!

After preparing a simple snack that included Mott’s Strawberry apple sauce which is gluten free and an excellent source of Vitamin C and pairing it with Mott’s for Tots apple juice boxes, I left them to fill their bellies while I got everything I would need to bring our Minion craft to life.  As I rifled through the craft cabinet and gathered all my supplies, I felt great knowing that not only were my kiddos snacking great but they were also enjoying a drink that is also an excellent source of Vitamin C.

Once they had satisfied their hunger and thirst with the Mott’s products they love and I love to give them, we got to work turning the left over juice boxes into an unforgettable Minion craft!

To start our Minion worthy craft, we sprayed the perfectly sized Mott’s apple juice boxes Minion yellow.

It took about three coats of spray paint to get a good covering on the boxes but the looked just perfect!  Once they were dry, we painted the bottom section of our boxes blue.  Then using a sponge brush, we added the bibs of the overalls and straps.

While our overall decorations were drying, we did some prep work on our Minion accessories.  We started by cutting out a black oval for the mouth as well as a pink tongue and white teeth out of craft foam.  Then we glued all the pieces together to form an open and excited Minion mouth.

Next we moved on to the Minion goggles.  To make the perfect goggles, we didn’t need to look any further than the drawers in our kitchen.  I simply pulled out a piece of aluminum foil, folded it into a strip and the shaped it into a circle, using a little hot glue to securely attach the ends.  Once I had repeated the process, I glued both of the goggles together.  Next I glued the goggles to a white piece of paper, cut around them and added a black dot for the eye.  And ta-da!  My Minion goggles were ready to be attached to my waiting Mott’s juice box!

With all of our loose pieces cut out and the paint on our juice boxes dry, we set our imagination free as we turned our favorite Mott’s limited time only Minion juice boxes into fun characters.  Since we wanted each of our Minions to have extra character, I let the boys decided how many eyes each one would have, who would have hair and even who needed a little extra personality with a tongue sticking out.  They both had so much fun imagining what their perfect Minion would look like!

Once we had secured our Minion faces to each juice box, we used a black sharpie to add some buttons and a bib pocket the overalls.  After all, we wanted our minions to look extra sharp!

With our Mott’s Juice Box Minions coming together perfectly, all that was left to do was draw on the remainder of the goggles with a black sharpie and our Minions were ready!

The boys were instantly take with their new friends and couldn’t wait to offer them a Mott’s snack!

As my older son giggled and tried to explain to my little guy that our juice box Minions probably wouldn’t want eat and drink their friends, I knew that I had created a tasty afternoon that they will remember for some time to come.

With Juice Box Minions in hand, we set off for the park to have a little fun with an early afternoon Mott’s snack while reminiscing about the activity that had reminded us of so many reason why we love Mott’s and had also given us more ways to make snack time fun!  Because at the end of our Minion sized craft, we had discovered that Mott’s limited time only Minions packaging can inspire so much fun!
