So, you made that same old resolution…..this year you’re headed to the gym!  First, let me say good for you!  Hitting the gym daily is a great way to help you look and feel better!  But before you head out the door, it’s time to pick up some essentials.

Why you ask?  Well if you’re anything like me, being prepared for the gym to be a pleasurable experience is the only way you’ll stick with it.  But how do you make yourself look forward to the gym?  Here are a few pointers to get you started.



Plan a Great Playlist: Don’t get to the gym and hope that you’ll find some great tunes playing.  Instead plan your own!  Whether you dust off your iPod, pull out your phone and start downloading or even go old school with a walkman (hey, I know you still have those high school mix tapes somewhere), ensure that you’re armed with music that will get you going and make you want to have your heart pump along to the beat.

Update Your Gym Look: We all want to look cute no matter what we do so put aside a few dollars for some workout gear that will make you feel fabulous.  If your goal is to lose weight, don’t splurge too much because you’ll be shrinking soon.  Instead, pick up a few new pairs of yoga pants and some bright tees to replace those grungy old ones that do nothing for your self-confidence or motivation!

Fuel Up: Think going to the gym on an empty stomach is the key to losing weight?  Think again!  You’ll struggle through your workout unless you start with the right fuel.  Try some fat-free Greek Yogurt and a few almonds or whip up a low-fat protein shake.  Either way, starting your workout with a healthy and tasty snack will ensure you can push through for much longer.

Hydrate the Tasty Way: You’ll need to ensure you’re staying hydrated while you work out to ensure a successful gym experience so don’t go empty handed!  Find a cute water bottle (I highly recommend Contigo water bottles) and fill it up with water, ice and a little bit of lemon and lime juice.  It will be the perfect refreshing way to keep yourself going when you want to quit!
