Through all of my pregnancies, getting dressed was always an exhausting challenge when my body was changing. I wanted to feel comfortable and cute, but so many maternity wardrobe staples are so boring and unflattering.

I don’t know about you, but layers are much more flattering on my pregnant body. If you’re pregnant in the colder months, you’re lucky—you have the opportunity to wear some really cute things that can be both comfy and chic at the same time.

I’ve rounded up some of the most stylish (and affordable!) winter maternity wardrobe staples that’ll get you through the colder months. Even better, many of these are designed to be worn long after you’ve given birth.

Check them out in the slideshow.

Buffalo Check Cardigan

You can't go wrong with buffalo check for fall and winter, and a good cardigan is a maternity must. It layers perfectly, covering what you want, and also works great as a jacket. Buy it at ASOS.

Black Maternity Jeggings

One of the biggest staples for fall you should own is a good pair of black jeans. These jeggings will get you through the cooler months and any trimester you can throw at them in style. Buy them at ASOS.

Buffalo Plaid Maternity Top

Another great buffalo plaid option is the maternity version of a traditional buffalo plaid flannel shirt. My favorite part is that it has short sleeves---since we pregnant ladies tend to run warmer---so you can layer it with a great cardi when you need to and stay cool when you don't. And it also comes in blue! Get yours from Nordstrom.

Maternity Denim Jacket

Another great jacket option and layering piece for colder months is a denim jacket. This one accommodates your bump but isn't obviously maternity, so you can wear it long after you're done being pregnant too. Get yours at Gap.

Maternity Coat

Living in Los Angeles, I can't really justify buying a maternity coat myself (since I pretty much never get to wear a coat period), but if I lived somewhere with cold weather, I'd be buying this one. Get it from ASOS.

Flannel Shirt Dress

I was thrilled when I bought this dress and realized it was both super cute and super comfortable. It's a definite staple in all maternity wardrobes for fall and winter. Layer with tights and a cardigan, and belt it if that's your thing. Get your flannel shirt dress from Old Navy.

Maternity Cords

Tired of jeans and leggings? Invest in a colorful pair of cords, or some in a good basic color like gray, to get you out of the leggings/jeans rut. I'm a big fan of these from the Gap.

Gray Skinny Maternity Jeans

I do love a great pair of skinny jeans, and gray is a great alternative to your basic blue jean and perfectly pairs with all those fall tones. TOPSHOP makes one of my favorite pairs. Get them at Nordstrom.

Gray Waterfall Cardigan

A cardigan might be my favorite thing to wear when pregnant. You can layer it over long sleeves or a tank, depending on your weather. And it lets me wear comfy leggings while hiding my butt---stock me up! This gray waterfall cardigan is so pretty and is on my wish list. Get yours from ASOS.

Jersey Striped Maternity Dress

I love a good dress. And this dress from HATCH is cute and comfortable, stylish, and designed to be worn long after you are no longer pregnant, which makes the investment worth it. Get yours from SHOPBOP.

Leather Booties

When you're pregnant, comfortable footwear is a must. That's why I love low heeled booties for winter months! And the best part---your feet stay (almost) the same size, so you can wear these long after your pregnancy has passed. Every woman needs these in her fall/winter wardrobe. Get these at Gap.

Maternity Chambray Shirt

A chambray shirt is a fall basic for any wardrobe, so be sure to pick up a maternity version. Bonus---a button down makes for a great nursing shirt post-pregnancy. Get yours from Gap.

Maternity and Nursing Sweater

If you're due in the winter months, a top that does double duty as a maternity and nursing sweater is a great investment. This one from Old Navy is super budget friendly too (and comes in black or oatmeal!). Get yours at Old Navy.

Maternity Elbow Patch Sweater

A cute basic sweater with a fun detail adds personality to an otherwise boring and basic maternity wardrobe. Get this elbow patch maternity sweater from ASOS.

Maternity Joggers

Every pregnant woman would prefer to be in sweatpants whenever possible. These maternity joggers are super cute on dressed down days and can be paired with flats or boots and a jacket to dress them up. Get them from Topshop.

Maternity Nursing Sweater

Here's another great option for a double duty sweater: It works great for maternity and then after as a nursing sweater as well. I love how long this one is too---it pairs perfectly with leggings. Get yours from ASOS.

Striped Maternity Tunic

I have this tunic in almost every color, and it is my go-to on a daily basis. Pair it with a pair of leggings, comfy shoes, and a cardigan and you have my maternity mom uniform. Stock up on them at Old Navy before they sell out.

Midi Ribbed Sweater Dress

Great for work, weekend brunch, or holiday get-togethers, this midi sweater dress is comfy, cozy, and chic. Also, it is super flattering! Get it at the GAP.

Moto Maternity Leggings

As comfortable as standard leggings, but stylish and chic thanks to some moto details, these leggings are great for a night in or out. Get them at the GAP.

Mustard Swing Dress

The most flattering dress silhouette for a baby bump in the "IT" shade for fall, this mustard swing dress is darling paired with booties and denim or a long cardigan. Get it for yourself here at ASOS while they are still in stock.

Maternity and Nursing Crew Neck Sweater

You can never have too many maternity sweaters that work as nursing sweaters after your pregnancy is over. This one is budget friendly, comes in two colors (I love the teal one), and can be worn over a tank for more coverage. Get it at Old Navy.

Designer Skinny Jeans

Not everyone wants to invest in a pair of designer jeans that only work during your pregnancy, but if you are pregnant in cooler months you'll basically live in jeans. So if you can, good jeans are your best maternity investment. These are widely known as the best---get them at Nordstrom. (And they are on a BIG sale, so hurry before they are gone!)

Plaid Maternity Pullover

Another buffalo plaid option---this one is super budget friendly and has long sleeves that you can roll up if you like. I have this one and love it! Get yours from Old Navy.

Side-Zip Maternity Sweater

The thing I love about this sweater is that you can change the style by adjusting the zipper. Make it more form fitting or more of a side-slit tunic depending on how you zip it. Get it at the GAP.

Striped T-Shirt Dress

This striped T-shirt dress could be dressed up with booties and a leather jacket or dressed down with tennis shoes and a denim jacket. So it basically works for any occasion all fall and winter long. Get it from Nordstrom.

Striped Maternity Sweater

You can't have enough cute basics in your maternity wardrobe, and this V-neck striped sweater is a must-have for chilly months. Get it at Nordstrom.

Faux Leather Maternity Leggings

If you're a momma-to-be that still likes a night out and wants to dress for it, these faux leather maternity leggings are a must for your wardrobe. Get them at ShopBop.

Maternity Overalls

One of the benefits of being pregnant is that you can do things you might not get away with if you weren't pregnant---like eating weird stuff, constantly asking for foot rubs, and wearing overalls. Overalls are so cute on baby bumps, don't you think? Get this pair for yourself from Nordstrom.

Striped Bateau Maternity Shirt

This is the cutest little striped long sleeved shirt, which would make the perfect maternity fall uniform when paired with jeans and tennis shoes. This one is designed to be worn after pregnancy as well. Get it at ShopBop.

Metallic Loafers

Shoes that are as comfortable as they are stylish is a must-have, and these metallic loafers fit the bill. Plus, they come in silver and gold and are currently on sale! Run and get some for yourself from J. Crew.

Maternity White Button Down Shirt

A white button down shirt is a wardrobe staple. Get a maternity version, and you'll find yourself wearing it more than you'd like to admit. Get this extra long one from Nordstrom.
