For many families, October is all about Halloween, and there are many ways to celebrate. Here’s a list of popular Haunted Houses in and around Los Angeles. (Before visiting, check the website for each location to make sure it’s appropriate for the age of your children).

Burbank Haunted Adventure Tour
Stough Canyon Park
1335 Lockheed View Dr., Burbank, CA 91501

Burbank is ready for the 20th anniversary of the Haunted Adventure. The fun begins at Stough Canyon Park with refreshments and activities and then it’s a 20 minute tour of the “Unknown.” (The tour takes place inside Burbank’s Starlight Bowl). Children under 6 are not allowed on the tour. Check the website for times and ticket information.

Boney Island
4602 Morse Ave., Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

Boney Island is a yearly Halloween extravaganza. The festivities are free and include decorations, illusions, moving skeletons, photo-ops, and more. You can visit Boney island beginning October 22nd. Sunday through Thursday, the hours are 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Friday and Saturday, it’s 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

The Haunted Shack
5112 Maricopa St., Torrance, CA

This residence in Torrance is a popular Halloween destination. Families are offered free admission to explore this haunted maze (which takes about 6-8 minutes to navigate). Since 1997, this family has transformed their driveway into a family-friendly maze (although it’s recommended that children be at least 6 years old). The theme of the maze changes from year to year. Check the website for times. (And, The Haunted Shack welcomes donations which are then given to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure).

Rotten Apple 907
907 N. California St., Burbank, CA 91505

Free admission is offered to families who wish to explore “The Not So Enchanted Forest,” though donations are accepted and presented to a different charity each year. This year donations are being collected for VBAS (Volunteers of Burbank Animal Shelter) and BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse). Rotten Apple 907 is a family and community-based haunted house experience. It’ll be open October 22, 23, 29, 30, and 31st from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

The Haunt With No Name
19351 Hatteras St., Tarzana, CA

The Haunt is celebrating “25 years of spookiness.” The Haunt is a kid-friendly yard haunt that has many decorations and special effects. Families find themselves coming back year after year. The scares begin on Friday, October 28th and continue through Halloween night.

Beware the Dark Realm
28261 Sugar Pine Way
Santa Clarita, CA 91390

This free, haunted house is quite popular in Santa Clarita. Families will find “monsters,” special effects, and elaborate sets. Donations (monetary and/or food)are accepted for the Santa Clarita Food Pantry. The festivities are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 21, Saturday, October 22nd, Friday, October 28th, and Saturday, October 29th between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm. Keep in mind that younger visitors might find the experience too scary so a non-scare version is offered each night from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Angelino Heights Trick-or-Treating
Carroll Ave. and Douglas St., Angelino Heights, CA

You’ll find historic Victorian mansions in this neighborhood. Many consider these homes to be the perfect location for Halloween decorations and yard haunts. Some families refer to this neighborhood as the “Haunted District.” Go by during the days leading up to Halloween to check out the decorations.
