I love, love, love watching television. In primetime, my DVR is often recording two programs at the same time, and sometimes, I wish it could record three or more. I watch shows online, onDemand, on NetFlix, and on Hulu Plus. And, while I’d love to cut our cable bill, I just can’t give up any of our channels.
I’m usually the last one to go to bed in my house, which means most of my television watching is done solo. While I no longer go into the office every day, and don’t chat about television around the watercooler, I have something better – social media. While I try really hard not to spoil important TV plots, I do like to talk about the shows I love on Facebook and Twitter. So, when I had the opportunity to try out a brand-new iPhone/iPad app called ConnecTV, I jumped on it!
ConnecTV is a free app that can easily be downloaded from the Apple app store. Once it’s on your device, all you have to do is create a free login, or connect using Twitter or Facebook. Then, ConnecTV automatically sets up your free account. The best feature of ConnecTV is the ability to clip live TV. Not every show is available to be clipped, but they are constantly adding more. You can either find your show on the list of live shows in the app, or sync with what you are watching. When an OMG moment happens, you can find the perfect 6-second clip (the app saves 2 minutes, so you have a bit of time to react to the moment, then head to the app and clip), add some text, and share it via Twitter, Facebook, or email. The ConnecTV website also shows the latest and most popular clips done with the app.
I see so many uses for the ConnecTV app – from funny moments, to jaw-dropping moments, to amazing moments (very likely in sporting events!). I wish I had the app during the Red Sox win in the World Series – I would just be clipping those David Ortiz home runs constantly!
Last night, I used ConnecTV to clip one of my favorite TV shows – Revenge. Revenge is now in its third season, and it’s one of the few shows that I try to watch live as much as possible. It’s a total guilty pleasure, and although there are lots of soapy elements, it’s also a great drama with some fabulous acting. I knew there would be some great moments to clip – almost every scene right before a commercial break is clip-worthy. In the end, I clipped a few different types of scenes – from the OMG moments like this one, to exasperating side plot moments like this one and this one, to “oh I love those little cake” moments like this clip. It was fun clipping the show – although I tried not to do too many so I could also keep up with the quick moving plot.
