My first pet as an adult was a cat. She was a great pet for us at the time, because we both worked full time and were out of the house for most of the day. But I longed for a dog, and back in 2011, when my daughter was in kindergarten, we started researching dogs. Since I’m home most of the day, it was a great time for us to get a family dog. In the spring, we adopted our Havanese dog Polly, and she’s been a great companion to all of us since then.

Most days, when I’m working at my computer, she’s sitting on her perch looking out the window (even when her bed is falling off the ottoman, as shown above), right by my side. She is definitely a family dog though, and is happiest when all of her “people” are together under one roof. If anyone is out at night, she sits by the front door, waiting for them to come home. She’s a huge source of comfort, and seems to know when someone is sad or just needs a little extra “Polly attention”. We are so happy to have her.

Have you seen the previews to the new movie, A Dog’s Purpose, which will be in theaters on January 27th? Here’s the official synopsis:

Bruce Cameron, A Dog’s Purpose, from director Lasse Hallström (The Cider House Rules, Dear John, The 100-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love.  The family film told from the dog’s perspective also stars Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz and Pooch Hall.

A Dog’s Purpose is produced by Gavin Polone (Zombieland, TV’s Gilmore Girls).  The film from Amblin Entertainment and Walden Media is executive produced by Alan Blomquist and Mark Sourian, and it will be distributed by Universal Pictures.
