With the downfall in the economy in the recent years we try to shop local as much as we can to help give back to the community and the local residents whether it is buying meat from the local butcher, purchasing fruits and veggies at the local farmers market and even purchasing toys at our local toy store. I'm not talking about Walmart or Toys R Us, I'm talking about the local neighborhood toy store.
This Saturday November 10th is the 3rd annual Neighborhood Toy Store Day. This special day helps to celebrate the benefits of shopping local. Participating toy stores will host in-store events and activities for the entire family!
While shopping for holidays toys this year, ASTRA, the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association , has made it a little easier with their 2012 Best Toys for Kids list. Over 550 of America's top independent and neighborhood toy retailers helped to select the Best Toys for Kids which inspire unique, open-ended fun.
We were sent three of the pretend, scientific play, and classic play toys that can be found at your neighborhood toy store.

I prefer to shop in local stores, not only does it help to give back to the community but it is always more peaceful. There are very rarely long lines and the staff is always much more friendly, always recommending products if you need help. I find the toys at our neighborhood toy store more unique, and educational. The puppet-on-a-stick was a huge hit with the boys, we often watch puppet shows at the library and the boys thought it was neat to have a puppet show themselves. The Brio train set is made out of durable wood and built to withstand two active little boys. Although the prices can be on the higher side, you can't beat the quality. All three of products were designed to last.
