I recently heard that we’d soon be able to find ALDI in Southern California. I thought: What’s the big deal? Another grocery store to chose from. I was wrong!

ALDI believes you shouldn’t have to sacrifice high-quality for everyday low prices. There are no coupons. There are no hidden costs or complicated “buy 3 get one free” deals. You won’t find an in-store bank or pharmacy. And because of this, ALDI customers only pay for freshness and quality, at a low price.

I was invited with a group of bloggers to check out a new ALDI store and see the difference myself. I knew nothing about ALDI before I went to visit, and was surprised by how different ALDI is from other stores.

Who Is ALDI?

Rather than carrying 20 versions of everything, ALDI offers only the best fresh produce and organics, dairy, gluten-free foods, USDA Choice beef and bakery items. More than 90% of the groceries sold are under ALDI premium exclusive brands, but that doesn’t mean you’re sacrificing taste or quality. All the items are tested in the ALDI Test Kitchen to make sure the quality and taste is just as good, if not better, than the national brands.

We actually got to do several taste tests while we were there. We sampled Pepperidge Farms’ Goldfish and ALDI’s brand Savoritz 4 Kids’ Penguins. Honestly the Penguins tasted better than the Goldfish! They had a truer cheese taste, and were light and flaky. The kids agreed with me when I brought some home for them to try, so they’re kid-approved, too!

We were told that produce is what ALDI is known for. And their produce section is gorgeous! You’ll find a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, including organic and locally grown produce at the lowest possible prices. I picked up a bunch of asparagus for under $2! Another great thing about living in Southern California is that we get to look forward to an even wider variety of fresh produce at ALDI thanks to the year-round growing climate and the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables in the region.

ALDI offers organic products like bananas, tomatoes, avocados, apples and salad mixes, with an easy-to-spot “organic” seal on the packaging. You’ll also find a variety of gluten-free foods: everything from baking staples and mixes to breads, crackers, chewy bars, cookies, cereals, pastas, frozen foods and more. Their exclusive brand products are free from certified synthetic colors, added trans fat, and added MSG, so you can be sure that your family is eating right.

You’ll also see ALDI Finds, premium food and household products that are only in stores for a limited time. Product variety depends on the season, and there’s usually a theme for the week’s Finds. ALDI advertise these specials in its weekly ads and online so shoppers can plan ahead. You have to hurry to get these – once they’re gone, they’re gone!

They’ve got a fantastic wine selection…make sure to try out the Trece Ranchos Cab if you like a smooth but bold red wine.

And look at these gorgeous flowers! A bouquet of flowers for just $3.99 means I can have fresh flowers every week!

I love the fact that I will save money simply by shopping at ALDI. Of all the products I tried, the ALDI brand tasted as good (or in most cases) better than the brands I usually buy. And knowing that I can save up to 50 percent on my grocery bill as compared to my normal grocery store makes it a no-brainer for me to shop there.

Still aren’t sure if you’re willing to give up your favorite brands? Trying new things at ALDI is risk-free because of the ALDI Double Guarantee. If for any reason you purchase an ALDI exclusive brand food and your family doesn’t like, they’ll give you back your money back and replace the product!

You’ll find all kinds of fun things (including delicious recipes!) on ALDI’s blog. Follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram, too.
