There’s a lot of family events happening around Athens in November:

Thursday November 6 from 7 – 8:30 p.m: Full moon hike at UGA’s State Botanical Gardens. Come see the garden come alive at night! Each hike will focus on a different topic such as the moon, constellations, or nocturnal creatures. Bring family and friends of all ages along to enjoy the mysterious world of nature at night! $5 for individuals or $15 for families. Advance registration is required.

November 6 – 9: Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” at the Morton Theater. Come experience the enchantment of this magical fairy tale presented by A-CC Leisure Services’ Athens Creative Theater. Featuring a wide range of talented children and adult performers, this stage adaption of the Rodgers & Hammerstein’s original production will enchant the hearts of children and adults alike. Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.



Friday November 7 starting at 6 p.m: First Friday on Main in Watkinsville is sponsored by the Watkinsville Trade and Tourism Association. It provides a family-friendly atmosphere with shopping, dining and kid’s entertainment on the sidewalks of downtown Watkinsville. There are themed activities and free popcorn, an inflatable (weather permitting) for the kids and this time they have Indian Dancers on the schedule for entertainment.



Saturday November 8 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m: Family day at the Georgia Museum of Art at UGA. Celebrate the 66th anniversary of the day the Georgia Museum of Art opened its doors to the public in this special extended Family Day. Explore highlights of the museum’s permanent collection with a special scavenger hunt, design a birthday card inspired by your favorite work of art and create your own button to take home. Refreshments will be served.

Saturday November 8 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m: The annual Rock and Gem show will be at the Sandy Creek Nature Center. This is a fun, free, family-friendly event by the Athens Rock and Gem Club with rocks, gems and fossils in educational displays and to purchase.

Also Saturday November 8 at the Sandy Creek Nature Center from 10 a.m – 11 a.m: Journey Through the Stars Family Planetarium Program. Journey through the night sky, exploring the great beyond. $7 for Clarke County resident families, $10 for non-resident families. Registration required.

And ALSO happening on Saturday November 8 at 10 a.m: The Saturday Morning Club: Saxophone Extravaganza at the UGA Performing Arts Center. The Saturday Morning Club features UGA student performers and is designed for children ages four through 12 and their parents and grandparents. The Saxophone Extravaganza will feature student performers from the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music in a concert celebrating the 200th birthday of Adolphe Sax, the Belgian musical instrument designer who invented the saxophone. $10 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under.



Monday November 10 at 4:30: At the Oconee County Library, Cynthia Jameson presents a free educational and commemorative White Table Ceremony of Remembrance (a ceremony which sets a table for a soldier at war who will never sit there) to honor missing and fallen veterans. You’ll also learn about Veteran’s Day and listen to the book Tuesday Tucks Me In about a soldier’s loyal service dog. Grades 1-5.

Tuesday November 11 at 11:00 a.m: Veteran’s Day Memorial Service at the Oconee County Veteran’s Memorial in Veteran’s park. This year’s program will include music by the Oconee County High School Band and Malcom Bridge Middle School Band, guest speaker COL Bobby Saxon, Division Chief for the Department of the Army Military Operations at the Pentagon and the unveiling of “Freedom”, a fine art limited edition bronze sculpture created by Mike Curtis. The traditional laying of wreaths will occur at the end of the program.

Saturday November 15 from 10 a.m. – noon: Fall family hike at UGA’s State Botanical Gardens. Join Education Staff, Andie Bisceglia, for a family hike this fall! Learn about why leaves change color, what animals are doing to get ready for winter, and enjoy a beautiful hike through the woods. Bring along friends and family of all ages. Wear comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, and get ready to explore! (Recommended that children are at least 5 years old). $5 for individuals or $15 for a family, advance registration required.

Also Saturday November 15: International Games Day and Live-Action Clue at the Athens-Clarke County Library. This is an all-ages event with informal board game playing throughout the day in the children & teen departments, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and the chance to participate in a Live-Action Clue game, 2-4 p.m., in the multipurpose rooms. No registration required. Costumes are encouraged for the Live-Action Clue game!

And MORE on Saturday November 15 from 10 a.m. to 11: Meet the Animals at Sandy Creek Nature Center. A naturalist presents an informative program that allows you to get up close and hands-on with some of the Nature Center’s live animals! Registration required. Clarke County residents $7 for the family, non residents $10 for the family.

November 20 – 23: Cornerstone Productions presents All on a Christmas Day at the Oconee Civic Center.  Follow the life of Luke, born on Christmas Day, as he grows up in the 1920’s through today. We’ll visit him from his childhood in the 1930’s to WWII and Hollywood in the 1940’s. Luke’s desire to be a hero is tested throughout the decades, leaving him to face a Christmas decision that could change his life forever. This Broadway-style musical delivers toe-tapping songs, original ballads, as well as a few familiar Christmas carols. It’s a fantastic show for the whole family! Thursday and Friday at 7:30 PM, Saturday at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sunday at 2:30 PM.

November 17 – 21: At Legoland Discovery Center in Atlanta, homeschoolers receive admission for only $7 and a free workshop. Homeschool parents are only $10 each. All you need to do to qualify for these special rates is bring a printed copy of your child’s “Declaration of Intent” on the day of your visit and you will be able to purchase these discounted tickets at our admissions counter.

Saturdays in November from 1 p.m. to 4: Zoo Open Exhibit Hall at Bear Hollow in Memorial Park. Explore Bear Hollow’s exhibit hall and visit some of the animals used in programs including snakes, lizards, tortoises, and invertebrates for free.

November and December at the Athens Classic Center: There’s ice in the Classic Center, and that means Georgia Ice Dogs are playing hockey there. And there is public ice skating on the same NHL-regulation rink the UGA Ice Dawgs use! At different times, of course . . .
