One of the hubs and I’s goals for 2015 (and continuing into 2016) is to set aside time for ourselves and our marriage. We are so lucky to live in the Tampa Bay area where amazing hotels for getaways and staycations are just a short car ride away.
Last year, we went to Tradewinds Island resort and stayed at the Island Grand with Kira and had a blast! There is SO MUCH to do there with kids. They have endless activities like a floating water park in the middle of the ocean, giant inflatable slides, snorkeling, and a kids club (parents time out). The full list is here. While we were there, we walked over to the 5 acre Guy Harvey Outpost,a TradeWinds Beach Resort which has a total laid back feel. It literally had me at hello and I couldn’t wait to book a trip back here alone!
Here are the five big reasons Tradewinds is the perfect getaway.
The first reason this resort is the perfect getaway is the atmosphere! I don’t know about you, but I am all about live music and a cocktail. The Guy Harvey Outpost had music around the clock! Great local bands or guys with just a guitar, they had it all and it was paradise! The Sand Bar is right next to the music, so pina coladas were just an arms reach away! VIP Cabanas were just an arms reach away as well which means not only privacy for me but quiet naps. Those moments we wanted to have peace and quiet, we grabbed a cabana and snoozed off! Paradise found!
The atmosphere in our room was just as laid back. Guy Harvey paintings, sheets and decor filled our cozy room and we loved having a mini kitchen and fridge to store snacks and drinks.
Activites are everything for us as well. The hubs was lucky enough to experience “Swim with the Fishes” in their Tanked aquarium inside the Rum Fish Grill (I will get to this tasty restaurant in a minute). He got to swim with over 200 fishes in a 33,500 gallon aquarium tank. You may have seen it on the hit show “Tanked” and Captain Tim made the experience so much fun! I highly recommend it if you like to snorkel!
We also went paddle boarding and played mini putt putt golf next door at the other resort. The activities are honestly endless at this resort.
Rum Fish Grill was one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. We had tuna poke to start with wakame and miso dressing. TO DIE FOR! I’m obsessed with buratta cheese so the buratta caprese salad did not disappoint. Local tomato, arugula, balsamic and basil. DELISH! For entrees, we shared the RumFish Boullabaise which consists of lobster, mahi, scallops and mussels in a tomato saffron broth and the Dry Rubbed tenderloin with red skin mashed potatoes and port wine reduction. We also had a side of stone crab claws. One of the tastiest meals I have had in a long time!
You can ask to reserve a table in front of the tank so don’t forget to do so.
The Tradewinds is known for its Tampa Bay Lighting Watch parties on the beach. I have ALWAYS wanted to go to one of these and was so excited when I found out they were having one while we were there. Lighting, beach, music and drinks. Can it get any better than this? I think not!
Brent and I are obsessed with s’mores. We bring our own s’mores with us wherever we go and we know that they will have a fire pit. Every night we sat around the fire, drank wine and ate s’mores. A night of romance in our book!
Grab your laptop and book a weekend getaway or a trip alone with your spouse at the Tradewinds on St. Pete Beach. It will not disappoint! You can find more information on the resort here or visit their social media pages.
