Many people I talk to now like the idea of “going green” which is a great thing considering we only have one earth to live on. I love the idea of my kids playing with toys that are “recycled” and “green” so I was thrilled to recieve the Submarine Safe Seas Set from Green Toys for review just in time for Earth Day!
Green Toys are made with 100% recycled plastic milk containers right here in the good ole’ USA! I also liked the way the set includes book for children by Joel Harper titled “All the Way to the Ocean”. It’s an uplifting story about how our daily life impacts the oceans and inspiring kids and families to do their part for a cleaner, safer environment. My 2 year old daughter, Soph, loves to be read to so when when we removed the toy and book from it’s recyclable packaging, the first thing we did was read the book. She plopped herself on the couch with her new submarine and waited as I got comfy and began reading, the pictures in the book are very colorful and appealing to small children.
I also appreciate the sales of the Safe Seas Sets benefit Sustainable Surf, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity organization dedicated to protecting the ocean playground and engaging communities to solve the most pressing environmental issues facing our oceans. I love seeing companies donating to great charities!
When bath time came, Sopheria took her new submarine with her and attempted to take the book but since it’s not waterproof, I had to decline that request. She loved playing with the submarine! I like how the submarine has a ton of openings so once bath time is over, the toy can dry completely and avoid getting that nasty mold inside it like with what happens with so many other bath toys.
I like how the submarine is dishwasher safe! I was talking with a friend of mine and she was shocked to find out all the dishwasher safe toys we have for bath time. We usually wash them on a gentle cycle in the washer with some bleach once a week to make sure they stay mold free.
Because this toy has no small parts it is ideal for all ages and the recommended age on the packaging is 6 months! I don’t have to worry about picking it up and keeping it out of reach when the new baby comes. The plastic this little thing is made from is also a nice solid plastic which leads me to thinking it will last a long time!
Green Toys has tons of other “green” toys as well and they are all pretty reasonably priced which shocked me because I know many times I try to find a good quality eco-friendly toys and they want an arm and a leg for it.
