I love drinking smoothies in the morning as the are a great way for me to eat a nutritious breakfast. Smoothies are great for a quick breakfast before or after I workout in the morning. I make sure my smoothies are loaded with protein, fruit and omegas. I call them my powerhouse breakfast and I love how easy they are to make and drink. I always keep portioned controlled packs of fruit in the freezer along with protein powder in my pantry so I can whip up a smoothie in no time. Last summer my neighbor gave me tons of apples from her apple tree and I cut them into pieces and froze them in 1 cup portions. My trick to keep them from browning is stirring them in apple juice before freezing. I don't peel the apples as I want the fiber in my smoothies and the peels don't affect the taste of the smoothie as they get pureed in the smoothie. So if you have tons of apples this summer, freeze them for smoothies.

I also like to use a plant based protein in my smoothie as I try not to eat animal products. I discovered a vegan protein powder that tastes awesome and has 22 grams of protein per serving, which is great to promote lean muscle growth and for muscle repair after working out. This vegan protein powder is made by Everlast VP and has only 110 calories per serving. It is made from yellow pea, rice and hemp but trust me it tastes great with its mild vanilla flavor making it great to add fruits and veggies to.
