What one word best describes your current state of mind?

Excited!

Why?

I’m excited about the release of my new DVD, Sukey’s Circle! Vol. 3: Mini Shows! and excited about sharing it with a new and wider audience. I’ve been working on the bi-lingual, Volume 3 made-for-TV mini-episode series of Sukey’s Circle! for the past year and am excited to finally be releasing it! It is currently airing on BabyFirst (TV) and I’ve had lots of great feedback and reviews while momentum builds and more people see the shows.

Tell us about your kids and family.

My husband and I have two college age sons, and we just recently returned from a three week trek together in Nepal. We travel together as a family each year and this year it was along the Himalayan Annapurna Sanctuary trail in Nepal to the Annapurna Base Camp. I was amazed to find myself trekking in the highest mountains in the world, and sharing such an amazing experience with my husband and two sons. We like to do things as a family and we’re finding that travel is a great way to be together.

How have your kids inspired you in the areas of music and recording your albums?

Prior to having children, I transitioned from being a professional modern dancer, into studying movement and music for young children. When I had my first son, my interest in movement for babies and young children blossomed, and with both my boys, I have always been interested in singing and exploring lots of movement play options to stimulate their love for learning and self discovery.  The time we spent playing together as a family gave me lots of material later on to create interactive music, video and movement programs.

You are about to release your latest DVD.  Can you give us a brief synopsis of each one?

Sukey’s Circle! Vol. 3: Mini Shows is the title of my new DVD release. It features a series of 15, newly recreated ‘mini’ episodes made especially for TV. Available in both Spanish and English, each episode highlights simple, realistic music and movement play options that encourage participation, learning, and thoughtful quiet time, all while viewing live action and felt animation scenes with favorite felt characters, Sunny and Tick Tock.

My first two award winning DVD releases, Sukey’s Circle! and Sukey’s Circle! Vol. 2 reflect, the same fun, gentle movement and song play atmosphere as Vol. 3, and each features a 3o minute double episode. Volume 1 features song animation with attention to parts of the body, and motion scenes with rocking, jumping, hopping and clapping. Volume 2 highlights themes from nature and includes interactive ball play activities. Both DVDs include favorite felt characters Sunny and Tick Tock.

Have you won any awards or national exposure with your music?

Yes, I’ve been fortunate to have received quite a bit of national exposure.  Right now the most exciting news is that my music videos are televised daily, as “Mini Shows” on BabyFirst!   My work has been honored with Parents’ Choice, NAPPA, Creative Child, Moms’ Choice, Preferred Choice, Children’s Music Web, and Parent to Parent Adding Wisdom awards.

You also have CDs correct?  Please tell us a bit about those.

My fourth and most recent CD release, I Am Sleepy! is a lullaby album created especially for children’s bedtime, and draws children into a safe and trusting relationship as they settle into cozy slumber.

My third CD, I Am Happy! is created to make children feel happy as they listen and sing along, and includes themes from the natural world such as animals in sound and motion, counting songs in multiple languages, stories about far away places, and instrumentals to stir the imagination.

My second CD, I Like to Sing! is a fun collection of lively, rhythmic musical entertainment for toddlers and preschoolers with an emphasis on movement, play and song the whole family can enjoy. It includes both traditional and original tunes and invites interactive listening and learning.

My first CD, Circle Songs! features my original Hello, Goodbye, and Tick Tock songs that are featured in the Sukey’s Circle! DVD series, and includes an assortment of songs, chants, and movement activities to enhance playing, moving and singing in an atmosphere of joyful participation.

What’s next for Sukey Molloy?

As of July 30th, my CDs and DVDs will be distributed by Naxos of America, and I’m excited that my music and video will be reaching more retailers. As for upcoming projects, I am currently working on creating new felt art animations to accompany more of my songs, and of course, I hope one day to produce another series of Sukey’s Circle! shows for an even wider television audience.

How do you spend your free time?

During free time, I practice piano, and yoga, and most mornings I walk or bike on a lovely outdoor trail near my home. I also love to work with felt art and to create picture boards for animation, and to spend time developing melodies and lyrics for new songs and stories.  I also love to attend dance performances and music concerts, and contra dance gatherings.

How do you keep balanced – i.e. work, home, family, fitness?

As a former professional dancer, keeping physically fit has always remained a priority in my life, and I think my family has the same ethic. As far as balancing work, home and family, it’s always a challenge to make sure one carves out enough free time for oneself, and I think all mothers struggle with that. Of course, now that my sons are in college, it’s not as stressful as when they were at home, but I do make sure I’m available for them when they do spend time at home, and try and leave my work out of the picture.

What are 5 things you think moms can’s do without?

Time to be alone with yourself to relax and regroup…

Time to be with your significant other to enjoy each other as adults…

Special one on one time with your child to relax and enjoy each other…

Time put aside for personal physical exercise …

A sense of humor and joy…

What is something that few people know about you?

Something that few people know about me is probably that I am quite shy.
