Mammootty may share screen space with Vijay for Vijay 61

Kollywood seems to have obsessed to work with Mollywood super stars. After Mohanlal’s detour to Kollywood through the Vijay starrer Jilla, its megastar Mammootty’s turn to make a trip to test the Tamil soil.  Some unconfirmed reports from Kollywood press suggest that Mammootty will share screen space with Ilaya Thalapathy in Vijay 61, as they fondly called the 61th movie of Vijay. Reports also suggest that Mammootty will have an equally important role like Mohanlal had in Jilla.

The untitled movie is written and directed by Mohan Raja, Jayam Ravi’s elder brother. The movie is an unofficial remake of the super hit Telugu flick Azad starring Nagarjuna. Vijay 61 will have two heroines Hansika Motwani and Genelia D’Souza to romance Ilaya Thalapathi.

Mohan Raja is in the cloud nine after the block buster Thani Oruvan with his brother Jayam Ravi. He had directed Vijay earlier in his movie Velayudham, which was a hit. Sources close to the director suggest that, Raja is working on his script and the movie won’t be a straight remake of Azad. The director wants to keep a perfect balance of importance between the roles of Mammootty and Vijay, as both of them enjoys huge fan base on South India.

Mammootty had earlier rocked the Kollywood with his cult characters in Maniratnam’s Thalapathi and Rajiv Menon’s Kandu Kondein Kandu Kondein. Vijay camp will soon announce the project officially after they are finished with the final preparations of Their, Vijay’s upcoming flick. The social media is on abuzz about the movie Theri, which is directed by Raja Rani Fame Atlee. Theri features a gorgeous Amy Jackson in a never seen before cop role. GV Prakash Kumar composes the music for Theri.

The movie is on its final leg of shoot with some minor patchwork left pending. Though Theri’s final post production work scheduled for January 2016, the producers are in no hurry to release the film before summer 2016. Reports suggest that the movie will be ready to hit theaters only after April 2016.

Vijay will join the Bharathan project, Vijay 60, once he wraps up Atlee’s movie. Hence, the Mohan Raja flick is likely to start rolling from the second half of 2016.
