It’s that time of year again to be thinking of change. Reviewing all the good, bad and ugly of 2013 and vowing that 2014 is going to surpass it in so many ways. And you know it will!
You’ve got your holiday already booked, your gym membership renewed and many other resolutions that you intend to maintain for as long as possible.
Whilst we’ve all had the best intentions when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, some do crumble. One that you can be certain to keep is a little redecorating frenzy to vamp up your tired looking home.
This doesn’t need to be a massive overhaul of every single room in the house, but those subtle changes that make a huge difference.
Here are some trends for this year for each room that will keep your home looking fresh, without breaking the bank:
Living Room
The hottest colour to be investing in next year is GOLD. But don’t fret! It isn’t as garish as it seems! Gold can be used in subtle ways to add texture and life to your living room. We love using our living room as a ‘relaxation station’ and the warmth you can add by investing in some gold accessories, such as cushions, can give a traditional and luxurious feel to any room…
Bedroom
When it comes to your bedroom, we cannot express the importance of decent lighting. During these cold winter months, waking up in the morning can be an arduous task to say the least. Amazing lighting will help you through! In terms of trendy lighting options for 2014, it’s a case of the simpler, the better. The smooth lines and simplicity of your lighting like this selection from http://www.lampcommerce.com/en/catalogue/brands/artemide perfectly complements the rustic wallpapers and bedding we have been seeing…
Kitchen
Your kitchen is arguably the most used room in the house (yes, we use ours more for opening bottles of wine than cooking but still!) and it easily gets grubby. How can you freshen it up? For your whole home, it’s a case of converting to the dark side. Whilst 2013 brought beige, beige and more beige, in 2014, you can attempt to be a bit more risqué with your colour and in particular, prints. Dark navys and moody browns don’t just hit the nail on the trend head, but in your kitchen, looks a heck of a lot cleaner too.
January through to February can be a sad time of the year after the excitement and festivities have disappeared. Back to work and back to normal everyday life (except for those lucky few who win the lottery). However, a New Year’s resolution, or five, can help put this much-needed spring in your step.
It’s important to give yourself achievable resolutions so you don’t fall short of your very own high expectations, and starting the year with some redecorating can give you and your home a new lease for life, all in time for the thorough spring clean to creep its way round.
