WHERE THEY STAYED: Coombe Mill, Bodmin, Cornwall – ‘Family farm holidays in Cornwall, magical for children, toddlers & babies’

“We have just returned from the most wonderful week at Coombe Mill Farm in Cornwall & I have to say I still feel the warm glow that was achieved from our holiday!

As a mother of very lively 4 & a half year old Triplet boys I am very anxious about choosing the right kind of holiday – the accommodation has to be large enough & not too fragile & there has to be enough to entertain our monkeys or there will be chaos all round!

I can’t even remember who recommended Coombe Mill but I checked out the website (which is very informative), had a quick nosey on trip adviser (all very positive), had a chat with Fiona (the owner) & all my anxieties were laid to rest! Especially as Fiona also has triplets as well as 3 other children! Surely this had to be a kiddy friendly place!

I was not disappointed!

Off we trundled early Saturday morning en route to Cornwall.  The journey was long but painless & we arrived in good time. Quick stop in Padstow for some Rick Stein fodder then off to Coombe Mill Farm

As we drove down a long hill surrounded by lush greenery I knew it was going to be beautiful & it really was.  The farm is nicely laid out – each dwelling has its own private area so althoughthere are quite a few you didn’t feel on top of each other at all (no need to feel guilty about noisy children)!

Our Scandinavian lodge was gorgeous & huge! Open plan with two bedrooms & a bathroom downstairs & upstairs a huge master bedroom with en suite.  We also had a large deck & private garden & all the facilities you need including washing machine & dryer.  It was also immaculate which made me (Mrs OCD) very happy!

My only possible negative with the accommodation was that it ran on an electric meter which you had to feed.  I understand the thought behind it as one could easily ramp up a huge electricity bill with washing/drying etc but one night we

misjudged it & the boys woke up screaming as it was so very dark with no street lamps or anything

The rest of the farm was also fab with an indoor play area & various out door play areas; the boys were spoilt for choice!

There was a launderette, gym & reception full of lots of useful information, your staples that you could buy milk & coffee etc.  They also had a freezer full of home cooked meals to buy if you didn’t want to cook

But I have to say the most exciting part of our holiday was at 9am sharp each morning when the farmer picked up the children on his tractor and trailer & took them to feed the various farm animals!  The children took turns to drive & the parents wondered behind – a brilliant opportunity to get the old welly boots muddy!  We were all allowed to get in with the animals, so a wonderful experience for the children, they even got to bottle feed a lamb & go on a deer hunt to find baby deer.  The feeding took about 1-2 hours & every day was filled with new adventures!

For the rest of the days we bounced between the swimming pool up the road (good value), various different beaches & the play areas at the farm

Cornwall is a beautiful place with so much to see and do & Coombe Mill Farm made for an exemplary bolt hole”
