It just occurred to me that the bohemian style is a very practical choice when it comes to transitional outfits. Layers are one of the key factors in bohemian fashion and they sure do come in handy once the weather starts to cooldown. What better time to layer than in between the seasons? There seems to be something restless about bohemian style, something that makes me think of words like ‘wanderlust’ and ‘discovering’. Is it travelling I’m thinking about? Or just that feeling of discovering something new, trying something for the first time, taking a chance and putting on a smile?

A smile of defiance and warmth. Not the kind of smile we smile when everything is perfect, but the kind when nothing is right but we still find a reason to smile about. One of those surprise grins. The joy of unexpected. New places, new horizons…. Yes, movement is implied in bohemian style, perhaps that is where the ethnic prints come in.  Our innate fascination with discovering, maybe it comes alive with tracing the lines of some elaborative pattern. It stirs something in our collective memory. Perhaps that is why when nobody is watching, our unconsciousness gives it a quick wink of understanding.  I can imagine the history implied in folklore winking back to us from all those materials. Maybe that is why while I was browsing the Zaful store, what caught my eye the most were bohemian items.

Take this white item for example. Somekind of cross between a blouse and a dress. Wouldn't it looks lovely with a pari of jeans? That's the kind of thing I want to be wearing once the Autumn arrive. Something to remind me of Summer, something to reflect that feeling that I'm caught in between the season. I suppose I want a gentle transition. To remember the salt in my air as I inhale the smells of Autumn. Dresses like this one, worn with tights and jeggings or perhaps with bare legs in high boots. There aren't a lot of peridos when one can combine boots and bare legs. It has to be warm enough, but not to warm. There is a short period every Spring and Autumn when this becomes  a possiblity and I always try to take advantage of it. Long maxi dresses are another favourite of mine when it comes to transitional dressing. Late Summer always makes me want to put on long dresses or skirts, take a long walk and breathe in the fresh air. Sometimes all I can think about are dresses.

A change of seasons often invokes a feeling of restlessness. A strong desire for movement and freedom. I always seem to find traces of it in boho chic. Sure, one can feel and dress bohemian at home, with a cup of coffee or tea in hand, dressed in a Summer dress with a warm sweater on top (that actually seems like the perfect way to greet the Autumn) but there still exists that feeling of movement, even if the only movement is that inner one, a journey into  the space of our memories, a voyage in time, a pleasantly unhurried exchange between daydreaming ( where we watch the reflections of the future, shaped by our desires) and memories (the resting place of our heart and our secret hiding place).

There is a high level of comfort to be found in boho inspired outfits. Whether we wear them at home or for a walk, we wear them to be comfortable. Nothing is too tight and oversized items are treasured. We need to be comfortable in order to be able to travel forward and back in space and time, don't we? Bohemian style loves movement, the freedom of it, movement in all its shapes and sizes. That is why boho chic treasures comfort so highly. It is an essential part of it. The casual vibe of bohemian style tell us to relax. It whispers that we can be glam without trying too hard, it advises us how to be feminine without wearing too tights clothes and how to feel good about ourselves. It invites us to creative. Bohemian style doesn't give us strict rules. With its folkore influences, it carries memories of the old, lessons from the past, but it doesn't exclude the present. Feel free to add some trendy garment to it. Do what you want, boho chic whispers. You can make your own rules.

Arrival of a new season is always a time of change. We get a little restless, feeling that life has given us a fresh new blank paper to write on. Sometimes we feel like our bodies can hardly contain all the energy and the desire flowing from us, yet sometimes we also feel drained, tired from all the changes around us. We watch with fascination as the nature starts to dance another dance of change. The new season is arriving. Autumn. Abundance of colours and patterns to reflect its arrival. Why not? Sudden mediations about bohemian style….why not? I always loved boho  The implied freedom. The feeling of movement and the promise of travel. Be it travelling within one's soul or within one's physical world. Let's us dream a little bit....
