Friends since college and now business partners, Claire Price and Elaine Regan are the design duo behind PRICE REGAN INTERIORS, an innovative and dynamic Interior Architecture & Interior Design studio based in Sligo. Price Regan interiors offer these 3 stems: Interior Architecture, Interior Design and Interior Styling. Recent projects include adding a little sparkle to Jodi Albert’s new fashion venture ‘Jodi’s Boutique.’

Background

UK born Claire Price moved to North West Ireland when she was 12. From an early age she was very aware of the impact that the internal environment had on the way she felt: ‘My bedroom was a haven, which I decorated to within an inch of its life!’ She bought her first property at 21 and studied Interior Architecture and Design at Griffith College Dublin, eventually progressing to Architectural Design. She practised Architecture, Interior Architecture and Design in Italy and London.

Twin and youngest of 9, Elaine Regan hails from Mayo. From a very young age she had a keen interest in design: ‘I would frequently re-arrange furniture at home and modify clothes; I was always drawing and creating.’ She studied Art at third level, where her love for colour & architectural drawing ensued. She then progressed to study Interior Architecture and from there went on to work in Architecture and Interior Architecture in both Dublin and Sligo.

In the latter half of 2014, both Claire and Elaine felt that they had gained a lot of experience in their field, the economy was on the up and they both had a mutual drive to set up their own design business… Price Regan Interiors was born!

Why Sligo?

‘We just love the lifestyle here; we love being a part of the creative hub that is occurring in Sligo, there is a lot of existing and up ‘n’ coming creatives and entrepreneurs. The place is buzzing between events like Sligo Design week, Swell, Surf Summit and with all the markets and exhibitions there is always something creative and cultural to be enjoyed. Yeats’ country is steeped in history and folklore, and to top it all off there is the stunning sea and landscape which all keep our creative juices flowing.’

What services do you provide? And what differentiates you from your competitors?

‘We are a young and dynamic team; we bring something new and exciting by way of a contemporary approach to residential and commercial design, through utilising 3 stems: Interior Architecture, Interior Design and Interior Styling. Each service can be offered independently as consultancy, or as a full turnkey service. No job is too big or too small. As Interior Architects we re-imagine existing spaces. We creatively rethink architectural environments to discover the potential in what is already there; we acknowledge and embrace the architecture of a space utilising form, materials and lighting. Through Interior Design we create bespoke, elegant and functional spaces; while offering individually tailored spaces to our client’s style, needs and budget. And finally, through Interior Styling we curate a space’s art, accessories, and furnishings. Price Regan interiors offer these 3 stems to deliver a choreographed and functional space while achieving a harmonious and exclusive look.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

‘What we love most: Scandinavian, Urban, and a mix of Classic Contemporary Design; Fashion is also a huge inspiration. Our main inspiration would have to be Scandinavian design – characterised by simplicity, minimalism and functionality; Key influencers include many of the design houses and designers – from Republic of Fritz Hanson, to Moooi; from Alvar Aalto, to Charles & Ray Eames. We follow innovative designers and design blogs from all over the world; designers including Laura Hammett, Tom Dixon, and Matthew Williamson; our favourite blogs include Abigail Ahern, Stylizimoblog, and A Beautiful Mess. Keeping informed allows us to come up with innovative and trendy design solutions. We love interior styling which is at the forefront in trend forecasting and contemporary design. We have a passion for detail, originality and imaginative design; colour and natural materials bring us so much creative joy and are our form of expression.’

How are fashion and interiors interlinked?

‘Fashion and Interiors are synonymously interconnected; the trends we see in both fields are influenced by, and influential upon, one another. Last year pastels were massive on the catwalk, as were pastel colours in interiors. Similarly, the trend towards emphasising natural materials in interior design came through in the fashion industry through the use of material patterns such as marble. Pattern and texture trends from the catwalk always influence their utilisation in the interior environment, making both fields of design inextricably influential to one another.’

Can you tell us about your recent projects?

‘We have had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects, both in the residential and commercial sectors. From a Health and Fitness Club in London, to a hair & beauty salon just outside Sligo town; from contemporary new builds in rural Ireland, to a beautiful period property in the centre of Sligo. Towards the end of last year we had the pleasure designing Jodi Albert’s new fashion venture ‘Jodi’s Boutique’. Add a little sparkle was the boutique’s tag line and sparkle it did! There is a fairy tale whimsical feel to the boutique with our over sized Alice In Wonderland style dressing room mirrors, and the sparkly glitter clad bespoke reception desk; to a beautiful circular banquette, and the gorgeous sparkling chandelier as the centre pieces of the space. We manipulated wall planes to create bespoke 3d lip display units, through to finishes specification and interior styling; in doing so we completely re-imagined what was a run down, uninspiring retail unit. Jodi was a dream to work with and had such a definite idea on what she wanted; as designers our skills lie in bringing ideas into a tangible reality and then some, which is exactly what we did here. We were delighted to have a happy client and a fabulous & fun design!’

You recently won an award for your design blog STUDIOfourteen. Tell us about your blog.

‘In our ‘spare time’ we also run a design blog, STUDIOfourteen; We both have a huge passion and appreciation for all things design: We love to write about and share images of interior spaces, architecture, furniture, art and fashion; We try to share as much of our experiences, finds & designs, loves & lusts in our design blog, STUDIOfourteen. You will find posts to keep you in the know of current trends, reviews, finds, designer secrets, while giving you an insight into our projects. Last October we were delighted to win a Silver award at The Blog Awards Ireland for Best Innovation Blog, we were truly honoured to finish in the top 2 as our blog was only in its infancy. We have big plans for our blog and this year we hope to up the frequency on posts and venture further into lifestyle topics such as food and fashion, but all things interior architecture & design will always be at the core of the blog.’

What projects are on the horizon and what would your dream project be?

‘We are so excited by the projects we have just started: a period style property in a sought-after London location; we are also in the middle of a cool project where we have free reign in an existing residential property to create something innovative which will be a trend setting space with scandi and contemporary vibes. Dream projects would be to secure more residential and commercial work with a contemporary concept; we would also love to get more involved in knowledge transfer through teaching, speaking at events and writing about design. Many of our projects are being photographed this month and soon will be revealed on our website www.PriceReganInteriors.com so watch this space!’
