Nice. I'm planning to be out for the Alumni race which is at 8AM Saturday morning. I'll have to give shorty a listen. Thanks for the heads up.

Sad to have to tell 'ya this folks, but I no longer have the Saturday morning radio gig on WFHB. A change in my work shift demanded a change in that routine, so for the first time in a couple of decades, I'm not doing a weekend radio shift. Mid-week mid-days are generally when I infiltrate the airwaves now....

MOM--Since the Men's race has been postponed until Sunday early afternoon, are you going to stay another night here in Bloomington?

Actually, this weekend became beyond surreal and insane for me. As many of you have probably heard, there was a tragic story that occurred Friday morning in Bloomington/Brown County. A young woman and IU student was apparently abducted and murdered sometime early Friday morning.

http://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2015/04/25/iu-student-hannah-wilson-died-head-trauma-coroner-says/26366813/

Hannah Wilson, a 22-year-old Indiana University student from Fishers, was killed by blunt force trauma to the head, Brown County coroner Earl Piper said Saturday.

Wilson was found slain Friday in Brown County. Indiana State Police have arrested Daniel E. Messel, 49, of Bloomington on a preliminary charge of murder.

Piper said there were some abrasions and contusions on Wilson’s body. There was no weapon left at the scene, he said.

Piper estimated that Wilson, who was first reported missing Friday, had been dead four to seven hours when law enforcement was notified. That would mean between 1:30 and 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Messel has had a violent criminal past, including arrests for battery.

Messel was sentenced to eight years in jail in 1996 after pleading guilty to battery with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury.

He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in 2006. In separate incidents in 1994, he pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

The Bloomington Herald-Times reported that in 1991, Messel was arrested on charges of confinement and domestic battery after a girlfriend made a report to police. In 1989, the newspaper said Messel was arrested after battering his grandmother and breaking a bone in her face.

State Rep. Christina Hale, D-Indianapolis, said she has fielded calls from constituents about a possible connection between Wilson’s disappearance and the Uber ride-sharing service, which had been holding a free promotion on the IU campus.

However, Uber spokeswoman Brooke Anderson said Messell has never been employed by the company and that Wilson hasn't taken an Uber ride since Monday night.

This was just a horrible story that was racing through the minds of every rider I picked after around 10PM last night. What I didn't know was that a ride that I had given around 3:50PM was directly connected to this story as well. I just hadn't heard any news about it yet.

Believe or not, at about 3:50PM I picked up two young men(I honestly can't remember their names. I had somewhere near 30 rides last night) on Jordan in front of a Frat house just north of Law Ln. One of them was obviously nervous and they weren't exactly sure where they needed to go, but they thought it would be near 11th and Grant. So I started heading that way. Along the way they were talking about the night before trying to retrace their steps, while the very nervous guy kept getting texts. He kept saying, "she and they want me to go there to talk about when we last saw her". Finally he got a call. When he hung up he told his friend that "they want me to talk to the police" and "I don't know how I feel about that." He then said, "I'm going to call my dad and have him get me a lawyer." So he did. He called his father and told him, "Dad, we went out, I met a girl and we ended up having sex. Afterward she decided she wanted to go home. Nothing bad or anything like that. She just want to go home. So we went out. I put her into a taxi and now she is missing. Now they want me to come to the police station to talk to me." He was obviously distraught at this point and continued to explain to his father that she was fine when she left him and apparently his friend had been at the same residents where all of this had taken place, because he knew what type of taxi she had gotten into as well. They both stated in my car that she had gotten into a what the thought was a "blue Bloomington taxi". At about this point I had made to Grant, they told me to head south, where I ended up dropping them around 7th, maybe a little further south.

Skip to around 10:30PM and a pair of young ladies hops in and after telling where they were head, they ask me if I had heard the news. I said that I hadn't heard anything, that I had been driving all evening. That's when I heard that a female IU student had been found dead in Brown County. That she had gotten into an Uber car the night before and the Uber driver had been the one that killed her. The only other thing I heard the rest of the night was that they did find her keys and wallet at her home.

So besides this being an awful, horrible story that this young woman died like this, this false rumor(no way this guy was an Uber driver. He may have been trying to pass himself off as one. But no way he was an actual driver) pretty much killed business as far as could tell. Plus, having what was probably the last two people besides the killer that saw her alive in my car last night....well all of it put a bad taste in my mouth and I decided to head back to Indy. It just wasn't worth it in the long run.

Lastly, though I know they won't see it here, I'd like to send out my heart felt condolences to Hannah Wilson's family and friends.

I also hope that kid that was in my car yesterday doesn't tear himself up too bad over this. There's no way he could have known this was going to happen.
