As of today I have been approached for interviews by Amazon, Google, Yahoo, and a few others. Except Facebook lolz, even tho I have a years experience coding Facebook web apps.... But, good pseudo-European (*) liberal type that I am, I won't work past my supposed 40 hours a week. So...

If you don't want to work more than 40 hours a week then you should not even consider Google....or an Silicon Valley based company for that matter.... I have ex-colleagues who work for Google....it's not for you...

Neither is Amazon or Yahoo, Def not google or FB. He's limiting himself. How many of us spent our 20's and early 30's working our asses off and loving it. He can't get to where he wants to be without the hard work. When you hit your stride, and have accomplished numerous things, then you get to sit back and advise. But not until then.

I believe from previous posts that Turbo has done pretty well in his career so I would say he "hit his stride" a whole back. Maybe expectations are different working for SW companies in the Midwest. My experience is primarily in the northeast and west coast..... The compensation and upside is typically fantastic but the expectations are high....and time to market is key... 40 hour weeks? Not likely. ..

I have no idea about turbo...I do know that successful tech companies, any successful company, will not tolerate clock watchers for long - if at all.[/quote
Everybody has their own personal lives to deal with and this at times involves obligations during "working hours". The people that work for me come and go as they please....they simply need to deliver on their commitments. But I will say that if a person is more interested in how much time off they get as opposed to the actual work at hand ....they would probably not be a good fit in our organization....

Bingo! I was known for being in early and getting my responsibilities covered. If I had takeoff for a few hours for some kid function I did. But also one year two of our younger chemists were responsible for a field trial and when I got the third call Sunday morn I went in to the lab. Worked long hours for two weeks and a weekend to get it made.
