Now that the Kickstarter campaign for Nexbit’s Robin has closed, the company is launching open pre-orders for the cloud-focused Android smartphone.
Nextbit lists two carrier options when pre-ordering the phone, GSM (ATT and T-Mobile) and CDMA (Verizon). The GSM version of the Nextbit Robin is the best option for Canadian and international purchasers, according to Nextbit’s product information page.
The Robin features a 5.1-inch screen, 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. Also, since Nexbit is marketing its new smartphone as a cloud-based device, it comes equipped with 100GB of cloud storage, as well as the ability to intelligently decide what data can be offloaded to the cloud.
Other specs include a 3680 mAh battery, 13 megapixel camera, 5 megapixel front-facing camera, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0.
The Robin was initially available to Kickstarter backers for US$299 and the full retail price is set at US$399, which means the smartphone costs somewhere in the $520 range in Canadian dollars (plus $39 shipping).
The smartphone is available to pre-order in two colours: Mint and Midnight. The device raised $1,362,343 by the end of its Kickstarter campaign.
One of the primary reasons why Nextbit’s upcoming device has garnered so much attention is its unique look. In an industry where various manufacturer’s smartphones look so similar, the Robin stands out from the crowd and offers a different aesthetic when compared to the typical modern black slab look most company’s have adopted.
