iPhone 5s top and iPhone 5c second, but a host of new handset releases, such as the Galaxy S5, are threatening its supremacy

Apple held on to the top two spots in the uSwitch.com Mobile Tracker for April, with the iPhone 5s the UK’s most popular mobile for the seventh straight month.

The top ten chart, which is based on live searches, pre-orders and sales. Statistics are derived from mobile phone deal comparison website Omio’s partners, which include uSwitch.com. This totals more than 10 million monthly page views, with the data a result of an aggregation of all clicks and sales from these partner sites.

The iPhone 5c maintained second position but the Samsung Galaxy S5 went straight into the chart at number three, replacing its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, despite only going on sale on April 11.

uSwitch.com said this could be a sign the flagship device from the Korean manufacturer could be an ‘iPhone 5s killer’.

The Galaxy S4 dropped one place to fourth, with the HTC One M8, which went on sale in the UK at the end of March, a new entry at number five.

The iPhone 4s, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S3 all fell two places to sixth, seventh and eight respectively, while the Google Nexus 5 was a new entry at nine.

The Sony Xperia Z2 was also a new entry at ten, despite only being based on pre-orders alone as it launched on May 1.

uSwitch.com analyst Ernest Doku said: “A bevy of high-profile flagship mobile launches have encouraged Brits to make bolder buying decisions. It’s no longer about being Team Apple or Team Samsung when there are such robust offerings from the likes of HTC, Sony and even Google themselves.

“As predicted, the HTC One M8 has entered the charts attracting savvy shoppers looking for a premium device without the costly outlay, and the feature-packed Xperia Z2 looks like another success story for Sony.

“May will see manufacturer efforts continue in earnest, starting with the launch of Huawei’s Huawei Ascend P7 series which has already seen some early positive buzz. It’ll be exciting to see whether the Chinese manufacturer can make further inroads into the UK market.”
