According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Google is gearing up to enter the mobile commerce game. The search giant will begin showing buy buttons in mobile search pages, which will redirect clickers to Google’s own product page where the purchase can be configured and even completed using stored payment information. Mobile advertising platform Verve Mobile, which bills itself as a “location-based mobile platform,” announced it has purchased beacon technology platform Fosbury. The goal, it says, is to further link mobile marketing to offline retail performance. Read Original Content
Research and Markets has released a new report entitled, “The Mobile Commerce Report: How Shoppers Use the Mobile Web During Different Stages Leading Up to a Purchase.” Read Original Content
A new report from Tech Crunch reports data from Digi-Capital, which showed global mobile Internet commerce growth is projected to balloon to US $850 billion in 2018. Asia will be the top user of mobile commerce, with probably half of the predicted revenues coming from the region, according to the projections. Read Original Content
Analysts at Technavio analysts forecast the m-commerce market in the US is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 25.72 percent over the period 2014-2019. Apple has announced its Apple Pay mPayment platform is expanding, with hundreds of thousands of new merchants on board to adopt the service next month. All told, there will be about a million US retailers working with Apple Pay, a marked improvement from the 200,000 signed up at the service’s launch. “Smartphone sales growth is slowing to less than 10 percent annually to 2018, and mobile networks saw just five percent growth in the last decade,” notes TechCrunch. “Mobile Internet is the mobile growth market. Banks are for the privileged. That’s the simple thesis driving the development of Abra, a startup that is taking out the middle man (the bank) when it comes to financial transactions. No more ATMs, no more physical bank locations — instead, Abra promises an all-mobile experience that involves person-to-person transfers, deposits, and withdrawals. In 2010 Ahmed founded WorldRemit, an online service that allows users to send money internationally via a PC or phone. Today, more than 250,000 transactions flow through the system every month. In many developing countries, significant majorities of residents do not participate in the formal financial system. They have no bank accounts, no credit cards, and no insurance. In sub-Saharan Africa, just 34 percent of adults have any sort of formal financial account, according to the World Bank’s Global Findex; in south Asia the number is 46 percent. Demandware®, Inc., has released the findings of its Q1 2015 Shopping Index. Among the findings, the report indicates mobile phones drove 18 percent of all orders, up 59 percent over Q1 2014, indicating stronger shopping activity on those devices. Read Original Content
A recent mobile shopping survey, run by online retailer Spree.co.za, reveals South African men are following the international trend of shopping more via their mobile phones than their female counterparts (73 percent versus 67 percent). Men are also spending more via their mobile phones, with 55 percent of men spending over R500 per month on goods versus only 47 percent of women. Read Original Content

A new report from San Francisco-based mobile intelligence firm NinthDecimal shows mobile ads on smartphones and tablets are having a big effect — and its impact is growing. Google lost out on $6.6 billion (£4.2 billion) of revenues to ad blockers in 2014, according to a report from anti-adblock tech firm Pagefair. Messaging apps get the most use on smartphones in major markets including the U.K., Germany, Japan, and Korea, according to new research from App Annie, in terms of sessions and total time spent. Apple is letting developers make ad-blocking tools for its Safari mobile web browser on iOS 9, threatening revenues for businesses that rely heavily on advertising. One of the changes in iOS 9 -- Apple's operating system for iPads and iPhone set to be released later this year -- will be the ability for app makers to create "Content Blocking Safari Extensions."
