Pitney Bowes Inc. announced the launch of the Spectrum Spatial platform, a platform built on MapInfo technology that delivers advanced location intelligence to enable businesses to centrally manage and deliver location data. Disney World is adding RFID to their theme park locations worldwide.  Under the new program, microchips that use radio frequency identification will be installed in guest wristbands, or MagicBands.  Guests can use the bands for park tickets, Disney hotel room keys, charge cards, fast passes for rides, and more.  Read Original Content

A new system called Blind Guider, is hoping to make use of RFID-embedded street tiles to help people navigate the city streets. Each of the yellow intersection markers would contain information about specific street names, and local directions, which a sensor-enabled cane would transmit to a bluetooth earpiece.  Read Original Content

AT&T researchers have developed a "smart luggage" tracker that would help travelers find their bags.  The tracking device, which fits inside or is attached to luggage, pinpoints the location of a bag in real time. Health Beacons’ RFID Breast Localization System™ is a wireless, marker-based approach to localizing lesions for surgery. The RFID tag is implanted at the site of the tumor days or weeks prior to surgery.
