According to Mobile Commerce 2013, from the OBS Online Business School in Barcelona, just six percent of Spanish consumers purchase via mobile, compared to 26 percent in the UK and 30 percent in the US. However, this proportion is increasing, with 2.3 million people shopping this way once a week or more.  Read Original Content

Near Field Communication is mainly useful in mobile phones and tablets for close range transactions/data exchange. The phone becomes an RFID reader or tag. It can read tags on bottles and posters. Over 200 million NFC-enabled mobile phones have recently been deployed: Manufacturers controlling 85 percent of the mobile phone and tablet market include it. Read Original Content

Forrester Research indicated that in 2012 mobile commerce sales accounted for just $8 billion, or three percent of total U.S. eCommerce spending. While this figure has already been surpassed this year, the data still shows mobile commerce is far from ubiquitous. Companies that run mobile marketing campaigns will face a new hurdle when the FCC’s update to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act takes effect.  The law will now require advertisers to obtain and hold unambiguous written consent from current and future subscribers before initiating any telemarketing call or text message.  Read Original Content

In short, the Beacons solution allows a retailer or brand to introduce micro-location messaging and personalized targeting to indoor locations. According to new data out from Hipcricket, more than half (53 percent) of polled holiday shoppers plan to spend more via mobile device in 2013 than in 2012.  Read Original Content

The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the creation of a joint venture between Belgian telecommunications operator Belgacom and BNP Paribas Fortis. The joint venture will allow consumers in Belgium to use their mobile devices to purchase goods or services, redeem coupons, or use their loyalty cards when visiting the mobile application of participating merchants.  Read Original Content

According to PayPal, many people aren't taking the steps necessary to use their mobile devices safely. Nearly 70 percent of Americans believe that storing payment information on their smartphone is unsafe, and 63 percent of people do not have a clear idea about what financial information is stored on their smartphones and more than half don't lock their mobile device with a PIN.  Read Original Content
