Position: Special Collections Librarian and University Archivist

Pittsburg State University invites applications for the position of Special Collections Librarian and University Archivist. This is a 12-month, tenure-track, faculty position with an anticipated appointment at the rank of assistant professor. The successful candidate will demonstrate the capability and commitment to engage in research and continued professional development worthy of promotion and tenure as a faculty member at Pittsburg State University. This position reports to the Dean of Library Services. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Special Collections Librarian and University Archivist will:
provide leadership for the unit, including supervision of staff and student employees.
promote ongoing collection development, use, and preservation of analog, electronic, and digital archival collections.
manage the digitization of archival collections and materials.
work with various Library staff to further develop and promote the library’s institutional repository.
conduct library instruction classes and otherwise promote the use of the unique and rare resources held by the unit.
develop public exhibits and programming relating to the archival collections.
participate in the development of web pages and guides to subject-area holdings.
participate in the library’s general reference and instruction services.
participate in library and university-wide committees.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited program.
Minimum of two years of professional experience in a special collections or archival setting.
A demonstrated knowledge of metadata description relevant to the control of archival and digital collection materials.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, as well as emerging trends, for institutional repositories, digitization of archives, records management, and the collection and preservation of electronic and analog records.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated communication, presentation, and writing skills.
Working knowledge of intellectual property and copyright issues related to archives.
A record of involvement in library and/or archival professional organizations.
