For the 2nd straight game David Ortiz clubbed 2 HRs against his former team the Twins. The big Red Sox DH now is tied for 2nd in the AL with 11 HRs (with Nelson Cruz). The 38 Year Old Designated Hitter is pulverizing the ball of late, and has shown no signs of slowing down. This bodes well for Boston, who can use the automatic advantage Ortiz gives them at a position that is struggling to find players that thrive in. The LHB has sipped champagne after winning 3 World Series with Boston, and with the way he is slugging of late, the Beantowners will be back atop the AL East Division rather shortly
David Ortiz not only hit jacks in 2 consecutive games, the ALL – Time DH HR leader hit 2 of them, in both Tuesday and Wednesday’s game.
For his efforts, he has tied for 2nd in AL HRs. The man keeps on ticking even at the age of 38.
Nelson Cruz blasted a shot that almost brought the O’s back in a game they trailed the Tigers 6 – 0. The O’s may have lost 7 – 5, but they continue to receive great play from this man.
Cruz was a bargain basement deal at 1 YR/$8 MIL, for a guy who is currently on pace to smash over 40 HRs, and drive in well over 120 RBI.
These are the kind of numbers the 33 Year Old was posting for the Rangers in 2013, before being placed on 50 game suspension for his part in the Biogenesis PED mess.
Josh Donaldson finished 4th in AL MVP Voting last year for a reason. Since he had a slow start in 2014, the A’s 3B has really picked it up in the last 28 days, hitting for a 3 Slash Line of .273/.391/.526 – with 6 HRs and 19 RBI in his last 25 Games Played. Donaldson has also cracked Tater-Trots in the last 2 contests, bringing his RBI total up to 28 for the year. His Oakland A’s have surged to 1st in the AL West through 41 Games, with a 25 – 16 record.
Josh Donaldson bashed a HR for his 2nd straight contest, however his spotlight was put aside in Oakland when Jose Abreu came up in the 8th inning a clocked a 3 run homer into orbit at the o.co Coliseum – giving Chicago the 4 – 2 win.
Mike Morse went yard for the 9th time in SF’s 10 – 4 win, and threw his name in the hat for best offseason offensive bargain with Abreu and Cruz.
Morse’s deal was also like Cruz, in that is was a 1 YR deal worth $ 8 MIL.
Abreu has 4 more HRs more than any other MLB’er this year, and has a real shot to hit the most big flies ever after his 50th game, if he can crush 4 HRs in his next 8 games played. 3 would tie the mark.
He would pass Wally Berger‘s 18 total, and Wally Joyner crushing 17, followed by Albert Pujols, Mark McGwire, Zeke Bonura at 16, and he is already tied with Ryan Braun and Kevin Mass, who had 15 HRs at the 50 game plateau.
Of course he didn’t break the record for fastest rookie to hit 15, as Kevin Maas still holds that distinction, with jacking 15 out in just 133 AB. Abreu has 166 official AB thus far.
That list of players is also pretty incredible when you look at it, with McGwire and Pujols nailing over 500+ HRs each, Wally Berger being a former HR champ, and Wally Joyner being one of the best hitting 1B in his generation.
Ryan Braun was pretty prolific HR hitter until his last 2 years with injuries and the whole ‘PED’ thing.
For those counting at home, Abreu is also well above McGwire’s rookie record pace of 49 HRs set in 1987.
The young White Sox 1B is also hitting a dinger for every 11.07 AB.
Chicago management is looking like complete geniuses for locking the man up for a 6 YRs/$68 MIL deal.
Although he will probably fare more like a Jose Bautista for the duration of the contract, which is not a problem at all.
Joey Bats has crushed 108 HRs in a little over 3 years since he inked a 5 YRs/$64 MIL deal after he doled out 54 HRs in his 2010 campaign.
Bautista has hit his 108 HRs in 1445 AB since jotting his name down on the line. This is the kind of value the White Sox should hope for.
This represents RoundTripper hit for every 13.41 AB for the stretch. Bautista has also learned how to draw plenty of Walks, with 294 BB in those 1445 AB, including leading the AL right now with 34 free passes, and possesses a .429 OBP in 2014.
This paragraph shows you that Bautista has also been productive, as he is currently tied for 4th in the AL with 10 HRs, but 5 behind Abreu.
