Milton Keynes’s Premier League ice hockey team, the MK Lightning, is delighted to confirm the return of principal sponsor Smith Recycling (Milton Keynes) Ltd for a second season.

Based in Bleak Hall, Smith Recycling provides an affordable skip hire and waste management service to the city and surrounding areas.

Last season saw Lightning’s jerseys and shorts carry the Smith logo prominently as well as on rink-side advertising boards and on the matchnight programme – all helping to significantly raise exposure of the company’s brand in and around Milton Keynes.

Central to signing the sponsorship agreement was a shared interest in local community involvement. That came to the fore earlier this summer when Smith Recycling helped provide funds for a float to publicise ice hockey in the city, for the annual Newport Pagnell Carnival.

Aided by helpers from the Lightning and MK Storm junior clubs, the float drew significant attention and around £500 was raised for Willen Hospice. That sum was added to £61 raised at a recent Planet Ice Family Fun Day, with a cheque presented to Hospice staff recently by MKL General Manager, Nick Poole.

Teresa Smith of Smith Recycling said the company was delighted to be returning: “MK Lightning are great ambassadors for Milton Keynes, nurturing a growing fan base and encouraging visitors to the city.

“Our combined fund-raising venture on behalf of Willen Hospice was a success and as main sponsors, Smith Recycling (MK) Ltd are proud to be associated with a winning team”Nick Poole said the partnership had already paid dividends for both sides: “We are thrilled to be entering into our second year of partnership with Smith Recycling.   I think people now associate Smith with MK Lightning and vice versa.

“Last year Smith were key in us putting together a very competitive and exciting side. This year we’ve raised our ambition as we look to win silverware in our final season of the English Premier Ice Hockey League. Smith Recycling will be a key partner once again and I know they’re as determined as we are to provide our great city with a trophy-winning side.

“We’ve already seen them provide us with great exposure this summer as we joined forces in the Newport Carnival. We see this as a long term partnership and are very exited to be working together in a city we are both so proud of.”
