Job Description

PATH seeks to recruit a Social Behavioral Change Communication Advisor for a three year project titled ‘Optimizing the Health Extension Program implementation (OHEP)’. The incumbent holder will serve as a member of the senior project team, providing technical support to staff and partners. The Social Behavioral Change Communication Advisor reports to the MNCH Sr. Team Leader.
S/he will provide expert technical leadership in social and behavior change communication (SBCC) to promote illness recognition and encourage appropriate and prompt care seeking among sick under-five children. S/he will lead the development and implementation of a dynamic and comprehensive applied SBCC strategy, which is scalable and well integrated in the Government’s approved community mobilization structure.

Design dynamic and comprehensive applied behavioral communication approach

Engage in rapid assessments to synthesize the root causes for low utilization of integrated Community Case Management of common childhood illness (iCCM)

Participate in field visits to best performing sites (areas of higher iCCM utilization) to inform the interventions to be designed.

Review program evaluation documents and literatures to understand barriers and enablers to care seeking

Assess existing IEC/BCC tools and propose areas of improvement

Lead the design of the applied behavioral communication approach for PATH in close consultation with relevant stakeholders

Ensure implementation of the applied behavioral change approach

Build capacity of staff and partners to roll-out the agreed interventions

In close collaboration with the project team, ensure the smooth implementation of the agreed upon interventions to drive desired and measurable  care-seeking in targeted low performing sites

Analyze and synthesize lessons and results to improve the overall approach for behavior and social norm change.

Propose changes in the interventions based on evidences from implementation sites

Conduct technical and programmatic assessments, and develop both individual and cross-cutting portfolio technical assistance plans in coordination with the MCHN technical advisor

Conduct formative research for messages and materials development

Lead the development and production of effective communication tools and media messages

Contribute to collective learning on SBCC in national  and international fora

Build capacity to scale up and sustain interventions

Provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and local government at all levels and implementing partners to scale-up the validated approach

Strengthen capacities of government and other partners to develop and manage health communication activities
