John 10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice. I know them and they follow me.”
Psalm 23:1, 3 “The Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing…he keeps me alive. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.”
My dog knows my voice. Her ears will perk up, or she will come running when I get home. She knows my voice even though she doesn’t always listen. She can have a stubborn streak. Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd. Do we know his voice? We can hear him in prayer, in wisdom from others, in the kindness of others, and in the beauty of creation. Do we listen to what Jesus wants us to do? We can have stubborn streaks too. May we hear and listen for our Shepherd’s voice that we would go on the right path.
Go for a walk. Clear your mind. Breathe deep. Think of the Shepherd who calls, pokes, and prods the sheep in the direction they need to go in. Listen for where God may be leading you.
Prayer : Good Shepherd, we can be stubborn and hard-of-hearing sometimes. Help us hear your voice. May we hear you and listen to you that we would go in the way you would have us go. Amen.
