Hashim Amla receiving the cricketer of the year award from CEO Haroon Logard and President Chris Nenzani during the CSA Awards 2013

Habitual run-getter Hashim Amla won as many as four awards including being adjudged as the cricketer of the year in the Cricket South Africa awards on Monday.

A veteran of 70 Tests and 76 ODIs, Amla was also named the Test cricketer of the year, South Africa fans’ cricketer of the year and a triple century – first by a South African – brought him the KFC ‘So Good’ award. The awards were based on performances in Tests, ODIs and T20Is played between 1st May 2012 and 30th April 2013.

While AB de Villiers (ODI cricketer of the year) and pacer Dale Steyn (T20I cricketer of the year) were the other major winners, the ceremony was mostly about the 30-year-old Amla who currently averages above 50 in Tests (52.11) and ODIs (54.85).

CSA’s Haoron Lorgat hailed Amla’s achievements and said that he is sure that the batsman will continue to dominate international cricket. “It is not easy to keep finding special words to speak about Hashim. He has set SA record test scores since unity against both England and Australia and he is the first player to score a test triple century for our country,” he was quoted as saying. “As if that is not remarkable enough he is also the No 1 rated player on the ICC rankings for test and ODI players.”
