To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Microsoft Outlook:

1: Launching Outlook Express 6

Double-click on the Outlook Express icon on your computer’s desktop (similar to the image displayed below) in order to launch the program.



2: Opening the Internet Accounts window

When Outlook Express 6 opens, you will be presented with the main Outlook Express window.



You need to click on Tools in the menu bar at the top of the window, and then click on Accounts…



3: Creating your new email account

The Internet Accounts window will then appear with the All tab selected. To set up your email account or email alias, click on the Add button, and then click on Mail… in the list of options that appears.

4: Entering your display name

You will then be presented with the Internet Connection Wizard. First of all, you need to enter your name in the text box entitled Display name:. This is the name that any emails you send will appear to be sent from. Most people choose to use their full name (both first name and surname) for this purpose, however you can choose anything you like for this.

Once you have done that, click on the Next button.

5: Entering your email address

You will then need to enter your email address or email alias in the text box entitled E-mail address:. It willx in the form of @ntlworld.com or @blueyonder.co.uk. For example, if you created an email address of richard.branson, then you would type in either: richard.branson@ntlworld.com or richard.branson@blueyonder.co.uk.

Once you have done that, click on the Next button.

6: Entering Virgin Media’s email server names

Now you need to enter the names of Virgin Media’s incoming and outgoing email servers. This will differ a little depending on whether your email address is either @ntlworld.com or blueyonder.co.uk If your e-mail address is @ntlworld.com click here for instructions, alternatively, if your e-mail address is @blueyonder.co.uk click here.

* Ensure that POP3 is selected from the list of options in the box entitled My incoming mail server is a…

* In the text box entitled Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server:, type in pop.ntlworld.com.

* In the text box entitled Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:, type in smtp.ntlworld.com

Once you have done that, click on the Next button.

Once you have done that, click on the Next button.

7: Entering your username and password

You will then need to enter both your username and password. This will also differ a little depending on whether your email address is either @ntlworld.com or blueyonder.co.uk.

* You need your email address and password that you created when you first set-up your e-mail account.

* In the text box entitled Account name:, type in your mailbox name.

* In the text box entitled Password:, type in the password for your mailbox.

* If you want Outlook Express 6 to remember your password when sending and/or receiving email, then click in the small box next

* to Remember password to place a tick inside it.

* Do not tick the box Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)

Once you have done that, click on the Next button.

My e-mail address is @blueyonder.co.uk

* Enter your email address that you created when you first set-up your Virgin Broadband services.

* In the text box entitled Account name:, type in your username, which is your mailbox name. Please note: If you created an alias name in a mailbox other than your primary mailbox, then the username here MUST be the same as the name of the mailbox that you created the alias name in. For example, abcd1235_2, abcd123_3 and not richard.branson2@bueyonder.co.uk.

* In the text box entitled Password:, type in the password for your mailbox.

* If you want Outlook Express 6 to remember your password when sending and/or receiving email, then click in the small box next to Remember password to place a tick inside it.

* Do not tick the box Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)

Once you have done that, click on the Next button.

8: Finishing the set-up of your new account

You should now see a window similar to the one displayed directly below.

This means that you have now successfully set up Outlook Express 6 for Virgin Media email.

Click on the Finish button to save all your settings and exit the Internet Connection Wizard.

9: Returning to the Internet Accounts window

You will now be returned to the Internet Accounts window where you started. However, this time, you will see the email account / email alias that you just set up listed in the window.

If there is more than one email account listed, you can choose to set your newly created account as your default account if you so wish. Setting it as the default means that it will be the account, which will always be used to send your email, unless you specify otherwise.

To do this, simply click on your chosen email account to highlight it, and then click on the Set as Default button.

Now, click on the Close button in order to close the Internet Accounts window and return to the main Outlook Express window.

10: Testing your new email address / alias

You can now test your newly created email account by clicking on the Send/Receive All button.
And that’s all there is to it!
