Dallas Zoo is situated 3 miles south of downtown Dallas, Texas, in Marsalis Park. Dallas Zoo is founded in 1888 and it is the oldest and biggest zoological park in Texas. This zoo is maintained by the non-profit Dallas Zoological Society. It is residence to over 2,000 animals which represents 406 species. It is an certified associate of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and also member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
In 2015, the zoo obtained an all-time yearly attendance report of 1,000,000+ guests. The Dallas Zoological Society is helped by over 21,749 membership households and growing. The DZS handles all fundraising events, membership rights, special events, food services, retail operation, volunteer programs, marketing, and public relations for the zoo beneath administration agreement with the City of Dallas.
Exhibits of Zoo
The zoo is split into two major zones: ZooNorth and Wilds of Africa.
ZooNorth :
It is the primary and earliest portion of the zoo. It features a huge variety of exhibits such as the Otter Outpost, Galápagos tortoises, and Bug U. The Hill, one of the unique parts of the zoo was shut as many of the animals there were moved to the new Giants of the Savanna exhibit. One of the more latest add ons to ZooNorth is the Wildlife Amphitheater.
Endangered Tiger Habitat : The ExxonMobil Confronted Tiger Habitat is a 2-acre and $4.5 million habitat that started out on May 8, 1999 and appears like a forest in the process of regrowth after signing. A glass seeing area and routes enable the guest to watch a Sumatran tiger and a Malayan tiger.
Children’s Zoo: The Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo in ZooNorth is house to the Nature Return, the JC Penney Discovery House, the UnderZone, a petting zoo, and pony rides. It also attributes an man-made stream that children are motivated to rush around in.
Bug U! : An exhibit that instructs kids about the zoo’s extensive range of invertebrates such as a termite colony, honey bee colony, Texas leafcutter ants, black widows, and brown recluse spiders.
Koala Walkabout : It was launched on March 10, 2012, in the Australian Outback area. It features koalas, red kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, a blue-tongued skink, and lorikeets.
Wilds of Africa :
The other one half of the zoo is the Wilds of Africa. Wilds of Africa opened in 1990. It was the initial exhibit to feature all of the major habitats of Africa. Guests can pay a visit to the rain forests, mountains, woodlands, rivers, deserts, and bush of Africa.
Penguin Cove : It is residence to about a dozen African penguins. The penguins can be viewed over and below the water as they walk and swim around their exhibit.
Chimpanzee Forest : The 19,000-square-foot Kimberly-Clark Chimpanzee Forest exhibit launched in 1997. Guests can discover the chimpanzees from the open air viewing station or from the floor-to-ceiling observation windows. Chimpanzee Forest consist of waterfall, stream, climbing structures, trees and rocks.
Gorilla Research Center : Gorilla Research Center launched in 1990. It is a 2-acre habitat featuring a lavish naturalistic landscape. The habitat was developed in a way that induces the gorillas to roam freely in an surroundings that clones to their native tropical forest habitat.
Crocodile Isle : Crocodile Isle permits guests to see Nile crocodiles from behind glass. Guests can view crocodiles swim, lounge in the sun, and even devour their food at public feedings.

By Car:
Exit Marsalis Avenue from I-35E.
Go 1/8 mile on the north bound service road.
Turn right at the giant giraffe statue marking the entrance to the Dallas Zoo’s Parking Lot.
By DART:
Take the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) RED LINE to the Dallas Zoo Station.
