Auckland Zoo is the New Zealand’s biggest zoological park. Zoo has the largest range of animals and has recognised as one of the most modern zoos in the world. The zoo has won the national and international environmental-related awards. It is the house of 117 various species and more than 700 animals.

Auckland Zoo has Located in Auckland, New Zealand, next to Western Springs park. The Auckland zoological Park has operated by the Auckland Council with the Auckland Zoological Society as a helping organisation. The zoo plays a part in conservation, research and education.



The zoo has divided into several areas by the region of origin of the species exhibited. Such as :

Elephant Clearing – This is the home of the two elephants. The clearing features a pool with a waterfall and mud wallow. The zoo currently has two elephants, Asian elephants Burma and Anjalee, both female.

Aussie Walkabout – Wallabies, and emus share a mixed walk-through exhibit which leads to an Australian bird aviary featuring rainbow lorikeets.

Hippo River – This area of the zoo has made to imitate an African wetland environment. It features hippopotamus, serval, hamadryas baboons, cheetah, and flamingos.

Orangutan Trail – The zoo’s 2 families of Bornean orangutans can found in this part of the zoo. The trail ends up at the ring-tailed lemur enclosure.

The Rainforest – Full of naturalistic exhibits this area boasts tarantulas, agouti, and primate species; spider monkeys, siamang gibbons, Bolivian squirrel monkeys and capybara.

KidZone – A children’s zoo with a play area and animals including chickens, guinea pigs, frogs, and locusts. The zoo’s kunekune pigs, Alma and Neena, also live here.

Tiger Territory – Auckland Zoo has three rare Sumatran tigers; male Jaka, female Molek and her son named Berani. There are two separate tiger enclosures.

Other animals includes red pandas, African porcupines, Galapagos tortoises, Oriental small-clawed otters, freshwater eels and meerkats.

Parking : Auckland Zoo has two large car parks providing free off-street parking for cars, charter buses and tour coaches.

Accessible car parking is available in the Motions Road car park, closest to the main entrance to the Zoo, for vehicles displaying a current mobility parking permit.
