SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews / 23 Oct) – Surigaonons from all walks of life have chipped in to help fund relief efforts for earthquake-stricken areas in Bohol and Cebu.

Willie Gan, president of the Surigao Chamber of Commerce and Industries, facilitated the collection, which they will then turn over to the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said they got at least P30,000 from individual donations, aside from those who directly sent their money through the bank account of the Bohol chamber.

The Junior Chamber International-Surigao is also still collecting more funds and goods to be sent to Bohol, according the group’s president, Donald Ga.

“It’s not about how big or small you shell out but it’s a matter of helping out those who suffered from this catastrophic event. Seeing people rebuilding their lives through your help is a great work of life,” Ga said.

Jun Clerigo, president of Rotary Club of Metro Surigao, said their group have also been collecting donations for this purpose.

The same effort is replicated by the Surigao Runners Club and the Facebook group Surigaonon Ako.

The different churches under the Diocese of Surigao had received donations which had already been sent to the affected areas, according to Bishop Antonieto Cabahug.

Surigao del Norte Governor Sol F. Matugas said she planned to give P200,000 for the two most devastated towns in Bohol.
