THE MAGNITUDE 6.5 quake that hit parts of the Davao region over the weekend did not injure anyone in the city.

In an advisory, Central 911 chief Emmanuel Jaldon said the agency was monitoring the effects of the quake, with no calls made to 911 regarding the quake.

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake shook the coast off Mati, Davao Oriental, with the tremor being felt as far as Davao City at 6:53 am, Saturday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, in a bulletin released around noon Saturday, said that the cities of Mati, Davao, Tagum, Samal; and the municipality of Baganga in Davao Oriental felt the quake hardest at intensity 5.

General Santos City; Alabel, Glan and Malapatan in Sarangani; Polomolok, South Cotabato; Butuan City, Governor Generoso and Cateel in Davao Oriental; Digos City, Davao Del Sur; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Braulio Dujali, Davao Del Norte; and Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur felt the quake at a slightly lower intensity IV.

Parts of South Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Sultan Kudarat and Davao del Sur registered an intensity III, while Kidapawan and Makilala felt the earth shake at Intensity II.

As of press time, there were no recorded deaths or injuries from the quake.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, meanwhile, said in an advisory that its transmission lines were not affected.

“NGCP’s power transmission services remain normal,” NGCP head of corporate communications Bambie Capulong said.

“The grid remains intact as there had been no reported cases of power interruptions and damaged transmission facilities in the South Mindanao area,” she said.
