SHE HAS every reason to be happy and proud.  After all, this accomplished woman, who has been with the country’s hotel industry for almost three decades now, makes history this time as the “first and only Filipina General Manager of Marco Polo-Davao.”

I first encountered Ms. Dottie V. Wurgler-Cronin during the launch of Lung Hin of Marco Polo-Ortigas’ Executive Chef Yeung Kwan Cheng’s Hong Kong Cuisine at the Lotus Court last April 16, 2015.  Dressed in a well-tailored, Chinese-inspired outfit of silk then, I really thought that the elegant woman was a Chinese national from Hong Kong.  Clearly, this intelligent woman’s beauty radiates from within.  You easily get the impression that she is from the old school.

Disciplined and systematic in her approach as a management person, Ms. Dottie’s years of working in the hotel industry have given her a broad and deep perspective to tackle the general requirements of the demanding job; including how to deal with people from all walks of life.  It was only when Ms. Dottie started speaking in crisp Cebuano that made me realize she is an amazing Filipina after all with a natural grace coming from being comfortable inside her own skin.  “I grew up in Surigao; and that’s how I met the family of Davao artiste, Ann Tiukinhoy-Pamintuan.  I am close to the Tiukinhoy sisters. And like them, I am a proud Surigaonon.”

Ms. Dottie V. Wurgler-Cronin is one experienced hotelier who studied at the St. Scholastica’s College of Manila; and later, had her educational training at the Les Roches International School of Hotel & Management in Switzerland.  She acquired various trainings in Leadership & Management in Food & Beverage, Human Resources, and General Operations.  Ms. Dottie is well-known as a strong team player who has the passion to develop and sharpen the talents of her staff and colleagues.  As head of Operations, she got an excellent Guest Satisfaction Rating.

Having successfully accomplished various projects with different companies, Ms. Dottie spearheaded many a pre-opening and formal openings of international hotels in Cebu City that she was nominated for the “J. Willard Marriot Awards of Excellence” with a Certificate of Recognition from the Chairman of the Company.

In Marco Polo-Davao’s Summer Cocktail @ The Deck held last April 23, 2015, to formally introduce GM Dottie V. Wurgler-Cronin to the hotel’s highly valued clients, guests and partners, Ms. Dottie told the crowd, “Truth to tell, I have only been in Davao for less than two months; and I now realize why Davao’s tagline is ‘from islands to highlands.”  Davao is, indeed, a beautiful place for business and leisure.  I am truly amazed at how one can easily tour around the City, mountain resorts, and Samal Island’s pristine shores—all in one day!”

As the new GM of Marco Polo-Davao, Ms. Dottie professed, “I have experienced that one of the City’s true wealth is the warmth and hospitality of its people.  In our hotel itself, I am very proud to work with great talents who are dedicated, and who have the heart to give our guests the best in quality of service.  I believe that this ‘customer-centric’ attitude is a trait that is common to all our associates around the world.”

Ms. Dottie also took the time to introduce to the guests the first property of Marco Polo’s new brand:  the Niccolo Chengdu in Chengdu, China.  “Niccolo Hotels are a new collection of contemporary, urban chic hotels.  Named after the father of the legendary global merchant, Marco Polo, Niccolo has 228 spacious and luxurious guestrooms and suites designed by leading international designers.  This is certainly a precursor for greater things to come as we look forward to having more hotels in the different parts of Asia this 2016.  I firmly believe that this is a manifestation of Marco Polo Hotels’ commitment to strengthen its international presence and become a world-renowned hotel chain with world-class service.  We hope that you could also experience our rare brand of hospitality and service in different parts of the world,” Ms. Dottie told the guests as she proposed a toast for all of the guests who patronize Marco Polo-Davao through all these years.

Welcome to Davao City, Marco Polo-Davao GM Dottie V. Wurgler-Cronin.  Thank you, Marketing & Communications Manager Josef Tagle Ledesma, for the pictures and data.
