The BJJFP (Brazilian Jiujitsu Federation of the Philippines) founded by Master Carlos Gracie Jr. is staging the 2015 Philippine Open at the NCCC Mall of Davao, Davao on Decem-ber 20.

In an email sent to the Mirror recently the orga-nizers of the event cited that following the success of the 2015 Philippine Open at the SM Mall of Asia, the event aims to discover probable Jiu-Jitsu athletes or talents from all over the country to be included in their National Training Pool and soon represent the Philippines in the Jiu-Jitsu International events.

To give a brief back-grounder on the functions and history of the BJJFP, which is under the IJJF, its main goals are to popula-rize, organize and regulate the sport on an international level.

This work is similar to what the Confederacao Brasileira de Jiu-Jitsu (Bra-zilian Jiu-Jitsu Confedera-tion) has done in Brazil, where the sport is highly popular and follows estab-lished guidelines.

Working in partnership with the CBJJ, the Interna-tional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation has developed the official competition rules of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

This has been accom-plished thanks to valuable insights from some of the art’s most respected masters who have worked together over the years to improve the rules and regulations.

Nowadays this system represents the standard followed by Jiu-Jitsu practi-tioners all over the world.
