Adtel, a telecommu-nications and technology provider, and Iontech, the distributor of information technology products launched ABS-CBN’s “Ang Mahiwagang Black Box Ang TV Plus” in Davao City with more than 75,000 units up for selling this year.

“But with the excite-ment that we saw the tar-geted numbers will ex-ceed,” Jim Casim, Digital Terrestial Television sales and distribution head said at Friday’s (April 8) launching.

Casin said they are currently covering about 27 percent in Davao City and Samal Island. He said they are eyeing to complete the coverage of Davao by De-cember this year. Casium however said about 1.1 million units have been distributed nationwide last month.

“Our sales agents are now starting making tours in houses in Davao,” Casin said.

Adtel and Iontech recently launched ABS CBN’s TV Plus in Davao aiming to give Da-vaoeños access to a superior entertainment experience. Through the Mahiwagang Black Box, Davaoeños will now enjoy exclusive chan-nels, programs and features in dramatically clear picture and sound for one-time pay-ment fee of P1,999.

During a press confe-rence, Digital Terrestial Tele-vision marketing head Sharon Tanganco admitted it took them a while to bring the black box in Davao because they prioritized on perfecting the technology before bringing it in Davao, which is the tech-nology’s first expansion out-side Manila.

“But we heard the clamor from the Davaoeños that is why we immediately come here after the launch in Ma-nila,” Tanganco said.

Apart from the free TV channels that broadcast using digital transmission like ABS-CBN, families in Davao can now watch the four exclu-sive free-to-air channels of ABS-CBN Tvplus that cater to all members of the family.

“As of now we are trying to offer channels for each member of the family,” Tanganco said.

Apart from a clearer and high standard definition, the TV Plus also promises more exclusive channels for Da-vaoeños like CineMo, the first all-day movie channels on free TV; Yey, the first all-day kids channel without subscrip-tion; DZMM teleradyo, the first all-day news channel; and knowledge Channel, the first curriculum-based educa-tional channel. CineMo’s “Funny Ka Pare Ko” the first local TV program airing on digital TV in the country is also another exclusive content that families will get and enjoy together.

“Whatever is shown in the analog of ABS-CBN is also shown even the local shows in the black box. The black box Ang Tv Plus is for those who do not have cable service. Dahil gusto namin kahit ang masang (Because we want that even the masses) Pilipino they will still get access not just free channels that we have but also more that will give them more infor-mation and entertainment. For the first time yung masang Pilipino na hindi kayang magbayad every month ng (those Filipino masses who cannot afford to pay every month of) monthly fee have access to additional enter-tainment and information channels,” Tanganco said.

Digital Terrestial Tele-vision CineMo channel head Mark Awiten said as they are still on test broadcast, the airing of commercials is still limited and will start regular commercial soon.

ABS-CBN TV Plus boxes priced at P1,999 are bundled with an ABS-CBN mobile SIM and are available in any accredited retail outlets, sales agents, and dealers. In Davao City TV Plus is available at SM Department Store, SM Ap-pliance, Silicon Valley, Octa-gon, Microvalley, Gadget King, Blade Asia, NCCC Hard-ware, Emcor, and house to house agents.

Each purchase of the ABS-CBN TV Plus comes with a free trial of the Ka-pamilya Box Office (KBO) Channel. After Davao City the ABS-CBN Ang TV Plus will be launched in Cagayan de Oro. Maya M. Padillo
