I Am AZ Music®

Hop on the sleigh with the Phoenix Boys Choir and listen to the most endearing holiday songs and carols from around the world. Audiences will be filled with holiday spirit as the angelic voices of the choir perform a delightful array of songs from England, France, Germany, Austria, and Poland, as well as other countries in Latin America. The choir will pay tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach with excerpts from his beloved Christmas Oratory, and of course, it wouldn’t be the holidays without the boys singing the Vienna Boys’ Choir version of “Silent Night” and Handel’s famous “Hallelujah Chorus.” Bring your family to this holiday extravaganza for all to enjoy!

About the Phoenix Boys Choir:

Founded in 1947, the Phoenix Boys Choir (PBC) offers programs featuring training in voice, music theory, and performance for boys aged seven to fourteen. Members of the PBC receive a world-class music education and one of the most significant experiences of their lives. Each year, the PBC offers a full season of concert performances, presenting a wide repertoire from classical to popular selections. They record albums, participate in music festivals, sing with other professional groups, and even host touring choirs. PBC members have performed for four United States presidents as well as with entertainers, such as Doc Severinsen and Stevie Wonder, and conductor Keith Lockhart, leading the Boston Pops Orchestra. The artistic staff of the PBC cumulatively shares nearly 150 years of music education experience. Georg Stangelberger, The Harvey K. Smith Artistic Director, formerly served as deputy artistic director for the Vienna Boys’ Choir in Austria. Beginning with the Training Choir, boys can progress to Cadet, Town, and Tour Choirs, and upon graduation, participate in the Masters Choir. When the boys reach the performance levels of Town and Tour Choirs, they have the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally.

The PBC has performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Opera, the Phoenix Chorale, and the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix; it has collaborated with the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, the Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix Youth Symphony, and the Desert Botanical Garden. During this past year, the PBC was invited to perform at the inauguration of Arizona’s Governor Doug Ducey and also sang at the memorial service for former Governor Raúl Héctor Castro. The PBC has performed the national anthem for the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Arizona Coyotes, the Arizona Rattlers, and the Arizona Cardinals. The Tour Choir has performed across the country and around the world, including in England, France, Japan, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Eastern Europe, and the Balkan States; in Austria, they sang side by side with the Vienna Boys’ Choir in the famous Court Chapel. In the summer of 2015, they completed a three-week tour of Spain and Portugal, and in June 2016 they toured the East Coast and Canada.
