Downtown once again hosted the largest anime convention in Wisconsin, with the eighth annual Anime Milwaukee over the weekend. We gave you a guide to check out some cool things at the convention last week.

The three-day event featured merchandise for sale in the exhibit hall, art shows, cosplay (costume play) fashion shows, gaming, music, discussion panels and screenings. It is a celebration of Japanese popular culture, and its generational impact on American entertainment.

The economic impact of the Anime Milwaukee event is estimated to bring more than $1 million to city vendors and establishments. More from Milwaukee Biz Journal:

One example of a local manufacturing startup supported by the Milwaukee anime market isEquilibrium U.S.G, a modular gear and accessories company. Founder Morris Jamlang said that he is selling his customizable backpacks at the convention and will be working with Anime Milwaukee to produce its product line next year.



Glendale’s Sprecher Brewing Co. produced a selection of its sodas with limited edition anime labels for the convention. The bottles featured Japanese-style illustrations with such names as Neko Orange Dream, Rocket Root Beer, Cream Soda Sparkle and Cheery Blossom Cola.

While the Japanese anime industry has stumbled in recent years, the local appeal has continued to grow based on attendance to events like Anime Milwaukee.
