You know it’s Cannes week soon when the Met Gala is in the books. Yesterday the celebs gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate technology in fashion. Many incredible outfits were there this year and lots of stars embraced the slits, cutouts, and mini length.
Balmain definitely dominated the yellow, pink, red carpet as opposed to 3D printing fan designer Iris Van Herpen. Just one of her dresses popped up but the Balmain model squad and most of Kardashian-Jenner family wore Balmain.
Best-Dressed Celebs At 2016 Met Gala
Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
Nicole Kidman stayed true to her style. She chose a luxurious slightly sultry Alexander McQueen number in black embellished with silver moons and stars. The cut out caped gown looked amazing especially paired with that crown hair accessory.
Lupita Nyong’o in custom Calvin Klein Collection dress
Lupita Nyong’o stunned in a custom sequined Calvin Klein Collection gown that featured a plunging V neckline and a semi-sheer train.
Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors
Lily Aldridge went for the golden bling dress from Michael Kors with spaghetti straps and midriff cutouts. The model matched her eyebrow makeup to her dress opting yet again for the trendy brown lipstick.
Kate Hudson in Versace
Kate Hudson was on point in her Versace incredible gown. Often times a white dress can look a bit too bridal but in this case it is not the case and while a brave bride could pull it off it looked more than fitting at this year’s Met Ball.
Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana
Dolce & Gabbana numbers you’ve never seen before popped up here and there on the red carpet. Kate Bosworth was one of the lucky celebs to sport a heavily embellished dress with all the complimentary hair accessories.
Karlie Kloss in Brandon Maxwell
Karlie Kloss opted for Lady Gaga’s stylist designer dress in white. The halter number showed off Kloss’ taut midriff with bold cutouts while the cropped cape she wore before taking it off for the cameras made it look completely different.
Hannah Davis in Zuhair Murad
One can never go wrong with Zuhair Murad. Hannah Davis chose a flattering mint strapless dress with a metal belt and a side slit that both showed off her figure in the nicest possible way.
Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger and Zayn Malik in custom Versace suit
One of the coolest ensembles were Gigi Hadid’s Tommy Hilfiger dress and Zayn Malik’s custom Versace suit that echoed each other with matching metal accents. Bravo!
Emma Stone in Prada
Wow, it’s been a while since Emma Stone stepped out on some big red carpet. Her Met Ball Prada dress made me glad she finally did. What dress cannot be improved with a corset?
Naomi Campbell in Cavalli Couture
Naomi Campbell was another celeb to show off her figure in a cut out dress. The supermodel wore a grey metallic Cavalli Couture number that showed off her upper abs and toned arms.
Beyonce in Givenchy
Beyonce has been in the news the entire week since dropping her fifth album. It’s only rational to keep close to spotlight. Besides it’s not like she’s missed Met Gala once in the past five years. The singer outdid herself (and other celebs who mostly went for metallics) by wearing an embroidered latex gown from Givenchy.
Bella Hadid in Givenchy
Another Givenchy number that has drawn my attention was on Bella Hadid. I mistook it for the one Ariana Grande wore at Time 100 Gala in late April, they are quite similar, only this one features a slit and is made of velvet.
Anna Wintour in Chanel
Anna Wintour looked incredible in a cream Chanel fringed dress. It was a rare occasion to see the Vogue editor sans sunglasses and she looked amazing.
Anna Ewers in Jason Wu
Anna Ewers showed up in a one-shoulder Jason Wu dress made of metallic fringe.
Hailee Steinfeld in H&M
Hailee Steinfeld stunned in H&M. Yes, this was an H&M emerald green gown with a satin slit trained skirt and sneaky cutouts. The young actress accessorized it with golden jewels and shoes and a green clutch.
Amber Valletta in H&M
Another incredible H&M number was Amber Valletta’s navy midi dress with a mesh insert in the midriff and a cool embroidered skirt. Her minimalist accessories included ear crawler earrings and a thin bracelet.
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton
Alicia Vikander wore an ambivalent Louis Vuitton mini dress. The sequin leather number in gold, copper, black, white, and red looks both weird and cool.
Taylor Swift in Louis Vuitton
There was nothing ambivalent about Taylor Swift’s dress from the brand though. The snakeskin print looked surprisingly great with a ruffled skirt and strappy sandals.
Cindy Crawford in Balmain
Cindy Crawford found herself among the Balmain squad models of the moment. Her metallic dress included stripe mesh inserts and looked very much in line with others’ numbers.
Jourdan Dunn in Balmain
Jourdan Dunn looked incredible in her Balmain dress. Her hair color echoed the combination of black and grey metallic as did her eye make up.
Alessandra Ambrosio in Balmain
Alessandra Ambrosio wore a macrame dress with a wide metallic belt. Hers was one of a more distinct gowns.
Kylie Jenner in Balmain
Kylie Jenner wore a long-sleeved semi sheer gown with a fringed hem. The youngest of the clan wore her hair short and her make up neutral.
Kim Kardashian in Balmain
Kim went all out metallic in a side-slit number with matching metallic T-strap sandals. She kept her accessories simple aside from a single ear cuff.
Kendall Jenner in Atelier Versace
Kendall was a defiant one and went with Atelier Versace dress. Not exactly what I wanted to see on the red carpet from the designer, but hey, what do I know? The it-est model showed off her model body with those bold side outfits and a semi-sheer texture.
Zoe Saldana in Dolce & Gabbana
Zoe Saldana is known for her love of drama when it comes to red carpet dresses. This time wasn’t an exception. The Guardians of the Galaxy star went with a strapless Dolce & Gabbana gown with a long train on a colorful peacock skirt.
Tabitha Simmons
Designer Tabitha Simmons looked amazing in her dark red velvet dress with golden embroidery. She accessorized heavily with earrings and a choker pendant that matched it in style and degree of fancy.
Sienna Miller in Gucci
Sienna Miller was among the metallic fans. Her rose gold Gucci gown featured a bow but it somehow worked.
Rita Ora in Vera Wang
Rita Ora doesn’t shy away from drama either. She chooses most provocative and revealing dresses. This time around she opted for a silver feather Vera Wang halter gown with mesh cutouts and a train.
Rachel McAdams in Valentino
Rachel McAdams wore a Valentino dress. It wasn’t the best choice but there is just something about it.
Nina Dobrev in Marchesa
I knew Marchesa would be one of the choices for Met Gala, but it was even more popular than I expected. Nina Dobrev showed up in a princess dress from the brand.
Poppy Delevingne in Marchesa
Poppy Delevingne wore a flapper style fringed gown heavy with stones, metal, and all kind of bling. Other celebs who wore marchesa included model Karolina Kurkova.
What do you think? Who wore best dress at 2016 Met Gala?
