The UMass Lowell River Hawks will close out a two-game Hockey East road series with the Vermont Catamounts on Saturday, November 7. Puck set to drop at 7:05 p.m. eastern at the Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vermont.

UMass Lowell currently sits at No. 4 and No. 5 in the USCHO.com and USA Today polls respectively. The River Hawks have been nationally ranked for 71 consecutive weeks.

Friday night, the River Hawks picked up a, 5-3, win over the Catamounts to move to 1-0-2 in Hockey East play this season.

These two schools have met 46 times in the past dating back to the 1972 ECAC Division II Tournament. Vermont won that first meeting, 7-0 despite a school record 62 saves by Lowell Tech goalie Mike Geragosian.

The River Hawks hold a 23-16-7 edge in the series and a 18-10-7 edge since Vermont joined Hockey East for the 2005-06 season. UMass Lowell is 5-1-0 in Hockey East Tournament play against UVM. UMass Lowell’s first win in the series came when the Division II Chiefs defeated the Division I Cats, 7-4, at the Gutterson Fieldhouse in 1979. ULowell went 11-for-11 on the penalty kill during that contest.

The University of Vermont is 2-5-1 (1-1-1, HEA) after taking three of four points from the Northeastern Huskies last weekend and a loss to the River Hawks on Friday.

“Both teams are kind of similar in the type of kids they recruit; they’re very competitive kids, some are late bloomers, hardworking teams,” said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. “Coach Sneddon and his staff do an excellent job of finding highly competitive kids who work hard.”
