The 2014-15 season wasn’t exactly the best season for the Wichita Thunder‘s Joe Caveney. The forward suffered an injury during training camp that made him miss the entire season. However, Caveney is ready for the 2015-16, this time back with the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

The 27-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Ice Flyers, where he has spent most of his professional career.

“I’m very excited to be getting back on the ice and joining Pensacola in a couple weeks,” said Caveney. “The organization has always treated me great and I look forward to a promising season.”

Caveney spent the 2013-14 season with Pensacola with three separate stints in the ECHL. In 39 games with the Ice Flyers, he tallied 57 points (26g, 31a) on his way to a league championship, Rookie of the Year and First All-Star Team honors. The forward also saw time with the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones, Idaho Steelheads and Florida Everblades. He tallied two points (1g, 1a) over 14 games at that level.

The Fitchburg, Massachusetts native attend UMass Lowell and played for the River Hawks in 21 games over three seasons from 2009-2012 before transferring to Fitchburg State University to finish out his collegiate career. While at Lowell, Caveney tallied seven points (4g, 3a) with eight penalty minutes. At Fitchburg State, he tallied 68 points (26g, 42a) with 32 PIM over 42 games. During his senior year, Caveney was named NCAA Division III (MASCAC) Player of the Year.

The Ice Flyers play their home contests at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida. The arena sits 10,000 for hockey games.
