Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation is celebrating the newly formed Thailand Section of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) in collaboration with Kasetsart University and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, and industry partners Siemens, Magnate Grey Box International (MGBI) and the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). An Inaugural Ceremony held on July 27 at Kasetsart University, formally recognised the culmination of twelve months planning led by Bombardier and the IRSE that has enabled the introduction of Thailand into the global IRSE community.

The IRSE is a professional institution that seeks to promote, for the public benefit, the advancement of the science and practice of railway signalling and telecommunications, and to maintain high standards of practice and professional care amongst those working within the industry.

Gregory Enjalbert, Head of Asia Pacific, Rail Control Solutions, Bombardier Transportation, commented, "Developing local expertise is core to Bombardier values and has been a fundamental part of our presence and growth in Thailand and further realised through our local university partnerships for the development of rail education. The launch of this new IRSE Section is an important next step for cross-stakeholder partnership in developing signalling knowledge and research in Thailand."

Bombardier has been a long-standing supporter and participant of the IRSE in various countries and recently also supported the set-up of the Malaysia Section. More information on the IRSE, the Thailand Chapter and the inaugural event is available at the IRSE web site, or via the IRSE Thailand Secretary.

About Bombardier Transportation in Thailand

Bangkok has been a hub for Bombardier Transportation's Asia Pacific business for almost 20 years. Since 2007, Bombardier has developed its site as its Regional Centre for Signalling and its rail control solutions are operating on two lines of the Bangkok SkyTrain, on the new soon-to-open MRT Purple line and two sections of SRT's mainline tracks. Today the local team of over 450 highly-skilled employees develop and deliver complete transit systems, rolling stock and rail control solutions for Thailand and beyond and Bombardier is well placed to provide the best rail vehicles and systems to further optimise the flow of trains and passengers across Bangkok and Thailand.

Committed to the development of local expertise, Bombardier is currently undertaking agreements to develop rail engineering education, with Kasetsart and Navamindradhiraj University.
