"American Sentinel is honored to achieve this significant milestone for the school and the privileges it affords the University, and most importantly our students," says Mary Adams, President and Chief Academic Officer at American Sentinel University. "The University is accredited by three key higher education accrediting commissions affirming that our quality degree programs meet or exceed the highest standards and criteria. Our decision to seek accreditation by the HLC reinforces the high level of excellence we hold true at American Sentinel and our objective to ensure our students obtain the best degrees available."

Institutions seeking accreditation by HLC are required to complete a period of candidacy before being evaluated for full accreditation. To earn and maintain candidacy, American Sentinel must fully meet the Commission's Eligibility Requirements and Assumed Practices and demonstrate the capacity to meet all the Criteria for Accreditation within the candidacy period.

At its meeting on June 30, 2016, the Higher Education Commission Board of Trustees voted to grant the status of candidate for accreditation. In taking this action, the Board considered the self-study submitted by the University, the report of the comprehensive evaluation team that visited in the fall of 2015, the report of the Institutional Actions Council (IAC) hearing committee (which met in Chicago with American Sentinel representatives in April 2016), and the University's responSES to these reports.

American Sentinel adds this status to its national accreditation with Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), and programmatic accreditations with Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The University continues to work toward full HLC accreditation and will host an interim and final comprehensive evaluation in the coming years to demonstrate that it meets the Commission's requirements for full accreditation.

"Our dedicated team at American Sentinel worked tirelessly for this significant accomplishment that benefits our students," says Adams.
