DETROIT, May 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of enthusiastic fans crowded Detroit's iconic Hart Plaza amidst cold weather and even ocCASional snow flurries for the finals of Red Bull Hart Lines – an innovative street skateboarding competition from the mind of Ryan Sheckler. The event features two distinctive lanes each with its own unique set of skateable features, as well as a first-of-its-kind timing element associated with each run. Hart Lines is a flagship event of the Red Bull Signature Series, a collection of the most progressive action sports events in the world.
On Sunday, Nyjah Huston took first place in the event with a dominating performance including tricks like a backside 180 to fakie nosegrind down the gap to hubba, a half cab kickflip down the stairs, and a 270 lipslide on the big handrail.
When asked what stands out most about this competition, Huston responded, "Everything stands out about this contest compared to anything else I've ever skated. The most challenging thing was the time aspect, it's an awesome part of it."
Last year's champion Curren Caples also returned with a vengeance securing a solid second place finish with a gap noseblunt slide down the hubba and a frontside bluntslide on the bank to wall. Belgian skater Axel Cruysberghs was one of the fastest skaters through the course and rounded out the podium in third place with a hurricane down the handrail and a frontside feeble grind down the long flat bar.
Upon completion of the finals and awards ceremony, the Best Trick contest presented by BFGoodrich got underway with a 30-minute jam SESsion. Everyone brought out their A-game but in the end Canada's own Ryan Decenzo took home top honors with a few banger tricks including a kickflip frontside lipslide and a sugarcane off the bump. Decenzo rode away with a brand new set of BFGoodrich tires along with a handful of cash.
